Goal-oriented ultra racers don't want to have to choose between lightweight responsiveness, all-day cushioning, or technical performance. They want a shoe that checks all three boxes, and the Altra Running Men's Mont Blanc aims to do just that with a trim, highly-breathable upper, pillowy weight-conscious foam, and a premium outsole.
As with all Altra offerings, the shoe has a FootShape toe box that differs greatly from the aggressive taper of traditional running shoes. This broader cut lets your big toe to remain in a straight position while allowing your other toes to spread naturally, reducing the risk for cramped toes, blisters, and other painful conditions that often plague runners. The shoe also utilizes Altra's Balanced Cushioning platform, where the height of the heel and the forefront are the same, to encourages a natural stride rather than elevating the heel or manipulating foot position. This is meant to promote better alignment and a more natural posture while on the move which in turn lessens impact.
The airy, hyper-breathable mesh upper delivers a close fit without undue bulk. The shoe's luxurious Altra EGO MAX foam midsole delivers comfort for extended mileage while reducing fatigue. The depth of the cushioning is clearly visible in looking at the shoe, but it doesn't weigh nearly as much as you might expect at first glance. The average weight per pair is less than 20 ounces (differs by size).
The zero drop shoe has a stack height of 30mm. The cutting-edge Vibram LiteBase outsole greatly minimizes the weight and bulk of traditional outsoles without sacrificing any traction. In fact, it's combination of micro and macro lugs and strategic patterning provides the shoe with excellent grip on a wide variety of surfaces.
Sold in pairs, the Altra Running Men's Mont Blanc trail running shoe is available in men's full and half sizes.
