Delivering maximum cushioning at a surprisingly light weight, the Altra Running Men's Olympus 4 offers comfort for high mileage or anyone looking to lessen impact underfoot.

Delivering maximum cushioning at a surprisingly light weight the Altra Running Men's Olympus 4 offers comfort for high mileage or anyone looking to lessen impact underfoot.

As with all Altra Running shoes the shoe has a FootShape toe box that differs greatly from the aggressive taper of traditional running shoes. This design lets your big toe remain in a straight position while allowing your other toes to spread naturally. This broader cut reduces the risk of bunions hammer toes and plantar fasciitis. The shoe also utilizes a balanced platform (height of the heel and the forefront are the same) that encourages a natural stride rather than elevating the heel or manipulating foot position. This is meant to promote better alignment and a more natural posture while on the move which in turn lessens impact.

The engineered mesh upper effectively balances breathability and durability. The design of the tongue helps to enhance fit and secure your midfoot. An integrated GaiterTrap allows for the easy attachment of Altra gaiters (sold separately). Deep EVA cushioning absorbs impact with each stride and InnerFlex midsole technology reduces weight while still allowing flexibility.

Weighing roughly 1 pound 7 ounces per pair the shoe has a 33mm stack height. A premium Vibram MegaGrip rubber outsole ensures confident traction on varied surfaces.

Great Trail Runners!

High cushion and very comfortable. I love the Vibram sole and color ways.

Solid for hiking

-can't ask for more cushion -very generous toe box -very wide outsole platform -good for hiking

These are extremely comfortable, but for me, they are just too big of a shoe to run confidently in. The wide base is great at slower paces for hiking, but can be problematic when running. along with the wide base, if your feet are generally an average width, the fit may be too loosey-goosey when moving laterally.

Supportive, zero drop, wide toe-box, well-cushioned w/o being squishy, minimizes my mismatched arches when new.

Like ALL shoes, support fades with wear.

Good major update

Major upgrade from the 3.5. Those who know Altra understand the zero drop and wide toebox. That has not changed. Also, the Olympus is known for maximum cushion. That remains. The Vibram sole is much different in this iteration, with more side to side flexibility. The sole seems to be less stiff than either the Olympus 3 or 3.5, allowing for a more natural foot roll. The tongue is sufficiently long, slightly less padded and splits at the top, a nice touch. Perhaps the smallest change is really appreciated is the loop on the heel tab. That makes it easier to get on your foot. I’ve put about 100 miles on them to date. They’re holding up well and the cushioning has remained intact. My first Altra Olympus were the 2s. Loved those shoes, even if the tongue was a bit short. When subsequent iterations came out, Altra made improvements in some areas, but there also seemed to be a few negatives with all those previous newer models, making me miss my 2s. This is not the case anymore. The 4s are an improvement in all areas.

Was only available in one color when I purchased them from Enwild. Makes it harder to rotate through a couple of pairs. Please carry more colors!
