Description

The Kelty Cosmic 40 Degree sleeping bag is ideal for summer or warm-weather backpacking and camping. Water-resistant down insulation and an array of features make this sleeping bag a great combination of value and comfort.

This sleeping bag is insulated with 600-fill DriDown. Renowned for efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, down has an incredibly soft, comfortable feel, and despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one inherent weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet, but the DriDown performs differently. Employing a unique, innovative polymer application, DriDown actually creates a hydrophobic finish on each individual plume of down. This treatment results in insulation that stays dry longer and dries faster, should it become wet, than that in bags with untreated down.

A draft tube behind the 60" two-way locking anti-snag zipper and an insulated hood further enhance the thermal efficiency of the Cosmic 40 Degree bag. A polyester taffeta liner provides internal comfort. Other features include a small pocket to keep electronics handy and a naturally-shaped footbox.

The Kelty Cosmic 40 Degree sleeping bag is available in Regular (fits up to 6' 0") and Long (up to 6' 6") lengths. Each sleeping bag includes a stuff sack.

Lightweight, packable summer sleeping bag

Likes

This bag kept me sufficiently warm although not totally comfy (without a sleeping bag liner or hat) in the low 40's (F), but a warmer bag (or a sleeping bag liner) would be preferable in those temps. It was more comfortable in the high 40's to low 50's (which makes sense, given it's comfort rated at 46F). I'm keeping it for summer camping >50F, since it's lightweight, packable, and the down breathes well. It's my bag of choice for the next couple weekend camping trips, with overnight temps in the 60's (F).

Dislikes

It's a bit pricier, heavier, and less warm than some (e.g. TNF Wasatch 40 is comfort rated to 40 vs 46 and weighs just 1.5 lbs), but I like that it comes in a long (and somewhat wider) version.

Good, but misleading amount of down-fill.

Likes

I purchased the Long version (6'6") It has been extremely comfy in 34-44 degree F weather. The material resists dust and silt well. Material is silky soft.

Dislikes

Nowhere in the description on this website or others does it tell you that it's actually only 80% 600 Fill Dri-Down, and the other 20% is Synthetic Polyester. Says it right on the info tag on the bag though. For the price, I'm still not disappointed.
