Description

The MSR Elixir 3 tent maximizes internal space and delivers durable 3-season backpacking or camping performance at a price that won't break your budget. A footprint is even included to add versatility and increase value.

The unique pole configuration of the tent provides 39.5 square feet of interior space and a full 41 inches of space-increasing interior height. The lightweight 7000-series aluminum poles are strong and durable. Poles, clips, and webbing are all color-coded to take the guess-work out of set-up, and aluminum stakes are included to aid in securing the freestanding pitch. Internal pockets allow you to make the most of available space by allowing you to store clothes and gear up and off of the floor. Two large doors lead to dual vestibules that offering a combined 24 square feet (12 square feet per vestibule) of additional protected storage space. If you're looking for even more external storage, consider purchasing the MSR Gear Shed (sold separately) which connects directly to the tent and provides an additional 26.5 square feet of coverage.

A balance of mesh and solid canopy fabric construction keeps weight to a minimum while providing venting, warmth, and privacy. The mesh panels and integrated fly vents allow for air circulation that combats the build-up of condensation on the interior of the tent. In warm, clear weather, you can tie back the exterior doors to allow even greater airflow.

The tent employs taped seams on the bathtub style floor and on the rainfly. Protective PU coatings on the 68D ripstop polyester fly and 70D taffeta nylon floor prevent leaks and fend off weather. Stress points on the tent body, floor, and fly are reinforced to prevent tear-outs.

The included footprint adds durability by protecting the floor of the tent from mud, ground water, and sharp objects like rocks, exposed roots and pine needles. It also enables you to leave the tent body behind (when conditions allow) and use just the poles, footprint, and fly to pitch the tent as a minimalist freestanding shelter.

  • Large vestibules
  • Two built-in gear lofts and glow zippers
  • Easy access with two large doors
  • Footprint included

Almost perfect - great super portable tent for the size

Likes

Packs down smaller than my previous 2 person tent (that had pre-bent poles). Everything assembles quickly easily. No issues with the rainfly during light to medium rain over 2 days. Internal space is great and I really like the pole design that seems strange at first but is simple and effective.

Dislikes

Some minor issues include how the rain fly is designed (comparing to the Marmot Limelight. With it open at the "first" stop, it can be really difficult to get in /out. Opening it wider to the "second" stop requires un-staking part of the fly and exposes the tent to any rain due to not much of an overhang.Opening the tent itself can be a two handed affair based on the shape of the entryway. Not sure how this wasn't caught in testing by MSR - the zipper simply stops and pulls up on the tent itself when rounding the corner to unzip upwards from the outside. Minor issue but a bit frustrating at times. The rain fly is pretty wide when staked out front and back, be prepared to take up more space than you might expect for a tent of this size.

the space my wife and i have is great, plenty of room left over for our gear. Fits our Big Agnes double pad and bag. love the "heavier" materials wanted a tent that had a bit heavier fabrics for longevity materials, i wanted something that was quality we use it to camp off our motorcycles and is great. easy to set up.

Dislikes

none so far

Very happy!

Likes

Top quality materials and poles Well thought out design Everything is color coded for easy use Plenty of mesh on sides and roof for good summer camping Light weight (we camp under wing of our airplane. Weight is important when flying and is always considered when buying camping products) Double vestibules! Fitted ground cloth included (deal maker) Fly folds to a half fly for ventilation but can quickly go back to full fly for weather Seems more robust and definately less expensive than Hubba series Pleasing red and silver colors

Dislikes

Hard to find dislikes Not enough stakes for every tie down point on the tent Would like more gear pockets and hanging tabs inside Pricey but i got it on sale so,,,
