Description

Equipped with a cushioned, supportive suspension system, the Osprey Skarab 22 is a mid-sized daypack that includes its own reservoir to keep you hydrated all day long.

The pack's suspension uses EVA foam stretched over a foam framesheet for comfort and support. An open mesh backpanel allows your back to breathe resulting in a cooler, dryer hike. The shoulder harness uses mesh cushioning over die-cut foam to provide a comfortable fit. An adjustable sternum strap and hipbelt help you dial in the fit.

This pack has a wide, bucket-style opening to make easy to load and unload. Inside, there is an interior volume of about 1343 cubic inches. That includes a dedicated hydration pocket and an included 2.5-liter Hydraulics LT reservoir. The drinking hose connects smartly to a magnetic bite valve attachment on the pack's sternum strap. There is also a handy heat-embossed, scratch-free zippered slash pocket, perfect to safely hold your glasses or phone.

Other features include stretch mesh side pockets, integrated compression straps, trekking pole loops, and a removable webbed hipbelt.

I really wanted to like this pack, but...

I love the bucket style opening I just hoped it would have opened a little bit wider. It’s always a nice feature for a pack to have a phone/sunglasses scratch free pocket. I appreciate a sternum strap rail system over others. I like how even with dual daisy chain rows it still is streamlined enough that it can be utilized in town as well as in the mountains. I like the Airscape open mesh back panel system and don’t mind one bit that it’s not rigid. My favorite feature is the hydration reservoir has it’s own pocket and came with a bladder. The outer water bottle pockets are interesting with the dual openings. I specifically chose this pack because it had a simple waist strap which can be removed.

24 minutes into my walk the shoulder pads cut into me. I had 21 lbs of gear + backpack. I’m uncertain if that is because I’m a woman using a man’s pack. My torso length is 19 and most woman’s packs don’t go that tall. I was a bit disappointed in the shoulder straps. I thought they could have been thicker, more cushion. According to statistics this pack should hold up to 25lbs, but in my opinion 20lbs is pushing it even. This pack is very aesthetically pleasing, but I don’t think it’s the pack for me.
