You can always count on Osprey to take backpack design to the next level and that's certainly the case with the UNLTD AirScape 68. With state-of-the-art fabrics, one-of-a-kind technology, and never-before-seen 3D printed lumbar support, this cutting-edge pack is equipped with every feature you could possibly want for extended backpacking trips and loads of up to 65 pounds.
The backpack's innovative AirScape suspension system consists of a stainless steel wire frame that pairs directly to a vacuum-formed polycarbonate framesheet and flares out into the hipbelt for an entirely integrated support system that keeps your movements unencumbered while maintaining load stability. An AutoLift system engages the upper frame, so you don't ever have to readjust load lifter straps while on the move. Self-locking cams enable you to make torso length micro adjustments while wearing the pack to ensure that the backpanel sits properly and comfortably against your back. Molded EVA foam padding is placed strategically to deliver durable, optimal cushioning where you need it while creating ventilation channels to promote airflow to keep you cool. The 3D printed FitScape lumbar pad supports weight while reducing pressure points and has an open structure to offer ventilation as well as a polymer compound that gently grips your back to help keep your load stabilized. The padded Fit-on-the-Fly hipbelt with an intuitive ErgoPull closure and a positioning sternum strap provide further fit adjustability.
Accommodating backpackers of different heights and torso lengths, the pack is available in your choice of Small/Medium (best fits torsos ranging from 17"-20.5") and Large/Xlarge (19.5"-23") size options.
While the pack's top-lidded large main compartment does have a traditional drawcord-opening top entry it also conveniently includes a large U-shaped zippered opening to gain wide-open access to the interior. An interior divider sleeve equipped with built-in compression allows you to utilize the lowest portion of the packbag as a dedicated sleeping bag compartment. The lid offers additional storage and can be removed entirely to shave weight or for use independently as a fully-functional 18-liter daypack with tuckaway harness straps. An integrated low-profile FlapJacket cover protects the contents of the main backpack if you are using it without the lid. When the lid is on, the cover tucks neatly out of the way. Two large-capacity zippered external pockets offer a ton of storage that can be easily accessed without getting all the way into the main compartment.
Other features include integrated compression straps, large zippered hipbelt pockets, webbed ski loops, tuckaway ice axe loops, removable sleeping pad straps, a sternum strap buckle that doubles as a safety whistle, a convenient Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment system, and an externally-accessed reservoir sleeve (hydration system sold separately) with injection-molded hose routers on the shoulder straps. A high-tenacity, seam-taped nylon ripstop raincover stores compactly in a zippered pocket at the bottom of the pack so it's not in your way but stands at the ready when weather takes a turn. Sometimes getting to where your hike begins is half the adventure and Osprey includes a durable, full-coverage travel cover to ensure that your pack gets to the trailhead unscathed whether it gets there with you by car, airplane, bus, or some other means of transportation!
