Description

Built to withstand demanding conditions, the Outdoor Research Interstellar Bivy delivers highly durable waterproof/breathable conditions in a streamlined, lightweight, and fully-packable design.

With a focus on minimizing packed size but still allowing room for your sleeping bag and pad, the bivy measures 82" x 26" at its widest point. An integrated Delrin pole runs over the top of the bag, keeping material off of your face and providing nearly 20" of headroom while you are lying flat on your back. When not needed, the Delrin pole can be left at home, shaving nearly 2 ounces off of the 21.0 ounce packed weight of the bivy.

The bivy is constructed of Outdoor Research's proprietary Ascentshell fabric. This ripstop nylon with a polyester backer incorporates mechanical stretch and excellently balances durability, breathability, and weatherproof protection. No-see-um netting at the opening allows you to keep bugs at bay while venting the bivy in warm or humid conditions. A ripstop nylon floor with TPU lamination bolsters durability and further ensures weather protection. All of the bivy's seams are tape sealed.

The Outdoor Research Interstellar Bivy is available in your choice of color options. A stuff sack is included.

Not enough girth, too many zippers

Likes

Big mesh screen top, but prefer that it extends all the way to feet for warmer weather use. Light weight. Really striking solaria aspen gold/yellow color.

Dislikes

Not enough girth at head end or foot end. I'm 5'10" and 38" chest/32"waist. With my Neoair Xlite mattress, my nose pokes the screen and my toes poke the top fabric, compressing the down quilt. Max height way too low, needs to be able to be pulled up to about 25" vertical or so for better livability. Annoying to get the delrin rod in and out of sleeve. No perimeter loops or other points for staking. The one at the foot end is off center and high off the ground to be useable. Too many zippers, but to be fair this is easily solved by simply stowing the one's you never use on one side and only use a pair on the other side.
