Moderately cushioned and equipped with all-surface traction the Altra Running Men's Lone Peak 4.0 trail running shoe is a workhorse that can tackle everything from short quick outings to 100 milers. Its combination of supportiveness breathability and responsiveness has even led to it being used by ounce-counting thru-hikers.

As with all Altra Running offerings the shoe has a FootShape toe box that differs greatly from the aggressive taper of traditional running shoes. This design lets your big toe to remain in a straight position while allowing your other toes to spread naturally. This broader cut reduces the risk of bunions hammer toes and plantar fasciitis. The shoe also utilizes a Zero Drop platform (height of the heel and the forefront are the same) that encourages a natural stride rather than elevating the heel or manipulating foot position. This is meant to promote better alignment and a more natural posture while on the move which in turn lessens impact.

The quick-drying mesh upper strikes an excellent balance between breathability and durability and an integrated tongue helps to keep out debris. An integrated GaiterTrap allows for the easy attachment of Altra gaiters (sold separately). A dual-layer EVA midsole delivers comfort and reduces fatigue. Shaped to mirror the skeletal structure of your foot a protective StoneGuard reduces the impact of rocks and roots.

The shoe has a stack height of 25 mm and weighs in at just 1 pound 4.4 ounces per pair. The TrailClaw rubber outsole has a tacky surface and a lug pattern that together deliver excellent traction regardless of terrain.

Sold in pairs and your choice of color options the Altra Running Men's Lone Peak 4.0 trail running shoe is available in men's full and half sizes.

great hiking shoe

I purchased these based on the great testimonials of other people that have used them. These shoes are incredible! I bought them for trail running and hiking but they've become my new favorite everday shoe. This is my first experience with a zero drop shoe and I am sold. The shoes are really comfy and the quality appears to be very high.

Upgrade from 3.5s

Recently upgraded to these from the LP 3.5s. I have used the 3.5s for almost 2 years. The 4.0s are absolutely roomier in the toe box which is a nice surprise. The cushion is slightly less but not enough to dislike them at all. Aesthetics are on point and the lugs on the sole seem to have a good bite. I'm sure these will be of similar, if not better performance than the 3.5s. The roomier foot box does give a sense that they have a larger fit but overall I feel the sizing is true. Love Altra!

This is my second pair of Lone Peaks. These shoes will take a beating. I used this pair for working and hiking.

I have another color, the black and red. The yellow seem to be stiffer and harder to break in than the other.

First pair of lone peaks

Bought these for hiking but have been wearing them everyday. Very comfortable and light. Best feature is the wide the box. I'm normally inbetween sizes 11.5 and 12. I opted for 12, fits well with a little extra space which I like especially if your feet swell. The yellow is like a neon yellow, does turn heads.
