The innovative Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 mtnGLO tent combines ultra-lightweight construction, roomy livability, and built-in LED lighting, making it a feature-rich option for 3-season backpacking.

Description

The innovative Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 mtnGLO tent combines ultra-lightweight construction, roomy livability, and built-in LED lighting, making it a feature-rich option for 3-season backpacking.

Stretching a full 88" in length, the interior of the Copper Spur HV UL 2 mtnGLO tent is 52" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 42" at the feet. With 29 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 2 pounds, 15 ounces, the tent offers ample space for 2 or serves as a spacious shelter for solo hikers. Dual vestibules offer a combined 18 square feet of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while media pockets located above the sleeping area enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft (sold separately).

Offering enough light to effectively illuminate the interior of the tent patent-pending mtnGLO technology integrates a strand of LED lights directly into the tent seams. Durable and flexible, the strand holds up to the wear of pitching and tearing down. A simple push-button controller allows you to toggle through On, Off, and 50% brightness settings. The light is powered by 3 AAA batteries (not included) but can also be lit by any USB power source.

The Copper Spur HV UL 2 mtnGLO tent's DAC Featherlite NFL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative clip attachment, pulling the tent body taut to increase the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the two vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.

Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.

If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur HV UL 2 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 4 ounces.

lightweight and roomy!

Likes

took this tent on our backpacking trip and it was lightweight (although there are a couple others that are lighter from big agnes-tiger wall and fly creek) but this tent was so roomy for us with lots of headspace. It comes with a built in LED lighting that was so convenient for us.

Dislikes

wish there were a couple more pockets inside the tent. The zippers tend to get stuck if you're not looking.

Great lightweight tent

Likes

Nice freestanding tent that is lightweight. Spacious for one person and your pack. Cramped for two people, but with the two doors it makes getting in and out easy. The mountain glow lights are useful. You can use a usb battery pack to light it up to save weight (if you need a battery pack for phone or camera), but you can only use it on one setting.

Dislikes

Matching ground sheet is too expensive. The stuff sack for the tent seems too big for the tent so it doesn't pack down small. Also, the stuff sack is really lightweight and can rip easily when stored on the outside of your pack, so be careful or switch out to another stuff sack.

Best backpacking tent hands down.

Likes

I owned the first generation of the Copper Spur MtnGlo 2 and loved everything about it... I’m an avid backpacker/kayaker and travel all over the Rocky Mountains from Arizona to Montana. I’ve been in harsh weather and this tent holds up! It’s roomy for solo and not bad for two... Even used it for my sons and I when they were younger and I starting backpacking with them. The lights in the MtnGlo are a great addition and worth every penny to upgrade over the classic Copper Spur. Unfortunately though, that tent was stolen. But after some research it was an easy decision to repurchase the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 MtnGlo. Only I had no idea there was some well deserved upgrades. More pockets for gear storage and a roomier ceiling makes this tent even better. The pole structure is more solid, the doors are better designed and it’s still one of the lightest 2 man tents on the market. Big Agnes really did a great job with the design upgrades. I can’t wait to get back out on the trail with this tent and make some memories. Huge thanks to Backcountry Edge for fast shipping and great service! You guys rock!

Dislikes

To fully stake this tent down with rainfly you’ll need 12 stakes. It only comes with 8 and need 4 more for the guylines. Also, I did wish it came with the footprint.

Great tent for the average backpacker!

Likes

Light weight, easy to set up, great features, and very roomy for a 2p tent.

Dislikes

Footprint should be included.

Everything but the lights

Likes

Really light the tent construction and the lightweight, ease of packability of this tent. We’ve used it on two 4-day campouts and it is easy to enter/exit, even standing up to 35mph winds on a hillside - make sure you buy extra guyline stakes.

Dislikes

Lights didn’t work right out of the package so ensure you have a light that will illuminate the inside enough to see. It only comes with 8 stakes for the tent and vestibules - guyline stakes are on you.

Overall Great Tent

Likes

Lots of room in the tent yet light enough to take in the backcountry. I really like the MTNGLO system and especially for all the light you get and it barely adds any weight to the tent. I have used this tent in downpours and storms and it help up fine. No leaks at all and I did not use a tarp or anything. Very solid all around.

Dislikes

It is expensive but I am a believer in you get what you pay for. Know that in the worst conditions that I will stay dry the price is worth it in that regard.

Super light

Likes

Ultralight, easy to assemble

Dislikes

LED light stopped working after the second use, material is lightweight so not very durable, don’t place it behind your backpack straps as the bag can ruptured very easily ( happened to me and I lost the rainfly)

Fast set up, light weight.

Likes

Fast and easy for a single person to set up. LEDs are a cool feature.

Dislikes

LED lighting is not bright enough to use for reading as I like to do but definitely great for adding light if you just want to stay up and camp or find something quickly.

Easy and Comfy

Likes

I am new to backpacking and love the ease in which everything just pops up together without much hassle and strain, love the lights and the skylight is awesome; two doors is a plus as well.

Dislikes

It should come with the foot print included for the price.

Amazing Tent!

Likes

Super easy to setup. Poles and clips are color coded which makes it very quick and efficient to setup. Very spacious interior with a lot of headroom. Very lightweight material that dries quickly. I love this tent! Thanks Big Agnes for your ingenuity and quality gear. Thank you Backcountry Edge for your great customer service, helpful gear advice, and helpful video gear reviews.

Dislikes

Expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Great backpacking tent

Likes

This may be the best combination of usable space vs packed weight. The MtnGlo feature works well and provides much more usable light than a headlamp when settling in for the night

Dislikes

Fabrics are extremely light weight. Can’t yet speak to durability but I can imagine this tent takes a gentle hand.
