The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio. The balance of weight and performance is sure to appeal to ounce-counters who still appreciate comfort.

Stretching a full 90" in length, the interior of the tent is 70" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 62" at the feet. With 41 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 3 pounds, 6 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 3 or serves as a super spacious shelter for 2 hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while media pockets located above the sleeping area enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for either the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft, Large Wall Gear Loft, or Large Trapezoid Gear Loft (all sold separately).

The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.

Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.

If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur HV UL 3 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 13 ounces.

I had read that it was the best/lightest full featured freestanding tent. Having used it, I agree. Spacious mansion for 2; could fit 3. Not sure yet if you can fit 2 20” pads and one 25” pad. Can for sure fit 3 20” pads.

Dislikes

Lightweight fabrics and zippers are part and parcel for an ultralight tent; keep in mind the unavoidable durability concerns. You will need to be careful with this tent.

Likes

Light, packs up to a reasonable size and is perfect for two people and their bags. A bit narrow to truly sleep three unless you're real friendly with each other - or tiny. Love the double entry, no need to climb over your tent mate to get out.

Excellent lightweight tent

Incredibly lightweight and comfortable. Was able to repack tent and fly down to a 6L size stuff sack to fit into pack easily. Very roomy, good venting, and withstood 40+ mph winds on Mt. Hood. Highly recommend!

Love this tent!

After extensive research online, it came down to this one and the Nemo Dagger (3 person). We actually bought both and set them up in our apartment and found that the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 person had better feeling interior dimensions, was a better price point, and reasonable weight. My wife and I could both easily sit up and we liked the locations inside the tents to hang lights, cell phones. Overall, highly recommend!

There weren't too many complaints on our end. In recent Fall camping, there was a small bit of condensation (or wetness) that appeared on the underside of the rain fly - my hand got a bit wet when I was pushing that back to get out of the tent in the morning. And I would like to see it in other colors, but overall, we're really happy with this tent at this price point.

My husband loves the ease of setup. Fabric seems sturdy. Didn’t take it out, only setup in the living room, so can’t comment on durability. We do feel that for us, tent is a little large for 2 people. Will be exchanging for the 2p.

Solid tent for price and weight.

Ultimately returned this product as it was actually too roomy for my wife and I. I've hiked with both the BIG AGNES COPPER SPUR HV UL 1 and 2. Easy set up. Light weight.

Dislikes

The fly can be difficult to zip open and close. Likely issues with long term durability, but that's the trade off for the lower weight.

Very, very light for it’s size. Easy, quick setup. Flawless build quality. Smooth zippers. Lots of gear pockets inside. Large vestibules. Packs down very small (except for the poles). Love that it can be set up with just the rain fly and footprint.

Dislikes

For the $$$$ price, it really should include the footprint. Nothing else I’d change on it.

I bought this to use with my younger daughter. I was looking for a lightweight tent since I carry most of the gear. I bought a 3 person to have space to spread out and also in the event that my my older daughters was willing to go. No luck yet. So far only two people in the tent.
