Description

The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio that has made it a favorite amongst ounce-counting backpackers who still appreciate livability, comfort, and freestanding structure.

Stretching a full 88" in length, the interior of the tent is 52" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 42" at the feet. With 29 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 2 pounds, 11 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 2 or serves as a super spacious shelter for solo hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. For trips that call for extra storage, you can use the Copper Hotel HV UL 2 Rainfly (sold separately) to increase overall external storage space to 36 square feet!

Interior mesh pockets and a three-dimensional storage bin at the feet provide places to stash gear and clothes while a media pockets enables headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft or Wall Gear Loft (both sold separately).

The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL and NSL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.

Ample mesh on the tent body and large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the ripstop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.

The custom-fit Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 Footprint (sold separately) can be used to add additional protection beneath the tent from mud, ground water, or sharp objects. If you really want to travel light, you can leave the tent body at home and use just the rainfly, poles, and the footprint to create a tarp-style set-up that weighs just 2 pounds, 2 ounces!

The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 backpacking tent is available in your choice of color options.

Wonderful UL tent. Fast setup helps especially in inclement weather. Purchased Gossemer's ground cloth for floor protection.

What an awesome tent. Lives up to the hype!

Likes

So frigging light. It's like holding a bag of foil. But still feels substantial when it's up. And soo easy to set up--less than a minute by myself (maybe an extra 30 seconds if I want the fly). Bought a Rapide SL Tent floor pad which fits in the footprint of this tent like a glove. And as good as it is, it's really this BA "ecosystem" that rockets this into another category. It's so nice when a company designs their products to really work together.

Dislikes

The included stakes are small and don't hold well. I wish the carry bag was a bit smaller.

First tent purchase!

Likes

I am not a technical person so was a bit anxious about setting up the tent. After looking at the video on line, I was able to erect this tent alone-with time and additional set-ups/take-downs I'm positive the length of time for set up will be drastically reduced. This is a user friendly tent which is airy, roomy for me and my 65L pack, and comfortable. Plus, big pockets in convenient places for storing phone, head lamp, etc. Great protection from overnight rain showers.

Dislikes

Can't think of anything at present but, I'll come back with update if needed.

Leave the dog home

Likes

Wanted to test out the tent before any extended stay trips. Brought the dog, mind you he is only 40 lbs, but didn’t understand the sleeping arrangements so it was quite tight with him there. WE LOVED THIS TENT OTHERWISE! The reachable side pockets, the exact placement of the zippers to get in and out of the tent, it was a perfect fit for my partner and I. This was perfect and will be a delight to have for future backpacking trips sans dog.

Dislikes

Well the thinness makes this not an ideal tent for more casual camping. But that isn’t a flaw. Just make sure to get the footprint!!!

Great

Likes

Easy to put up and take down. Well sealed. Nice pockets inside for easy access to flashlight or anything else you need quickly or in the dark. Very light to carry. I've only got to use it once so far as backpacking season starts here in October. I look forward to putting it to the test though.

Dislikes

The material is so lightweight I fear it will not last long term without getting rips. When I say lightweight, I mean so so thin I was afraid I would rip it.

Great lightweight freestanding tent

Likes

Light weight for a free standing tent Easy and quick for one person to set up Fantastic one person tent, but will also work for 2 people if packs or other gear are placed in vestibules Zippers are nice - don't snag and operate smoothly

Dislikes

Bottom is the usual thin material in a lightweight tent - bought and carry the footprint to be safe

Love the color

Likes

I’ve been looking for a tent that blends in with the New England foliage & I’m really liking the color of this tent. It’s blends in naturally & almost disappears from a distance. It’s much lighter than the 2 person Kelty tent I’d been carrying, but has a ton of space for one & fits 2 comfortably as well. When camping with a second person, the 2nd door is a must! I’m also happy with the weight when I‘m hiking alone.

Dislikes

The material is definitely a lot thinner than tents I’ve owned in the past & I opted not to spend the extra on the footprint, So I’m concerned about tearing the floor over time.
