Description

The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio that has made it a favorite amongst ounce-counting backpackers who still appreciate livability, comfort, and freestanding structure.

Stretching a full 90" in length, the interior of the tent is 70" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 62" at the feet. With 41 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 3 pounds, 8 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 3 or serves as a super spacious shelter for two. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. For trips that call for extra storage, you can use the Copper Hotel HV UL 3 Rainfly (sold separately) to increase overall external storage space to 36 square feet!

Interior mesh pockets and a three-dimensional storage bin at the feet provide places to stash gear and clothes while a media pockets enables headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Large Wall Gear Loft, Large Trapezoid Gear Loft, or Triangle Gear Loft (all sold separately).

The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL and NSL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.

Ample mesh on the tent body and large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the ripstop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.

The custom-fit Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 Footprint (sold separately) can be used to add additional protection beneath the tent from mud, ground water, or sharp objects. If you really want to travel light, you can leave the tent body at home and use just the rainfly, poles, and the footprint to create a tarp-style set-up that weighs just 2 pounds, 13 ounces!

The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 backpacking tent is available in your choice of color options.

Ultra lightweight, ultra durable

What a great tent! We kicked the snot out of this tent on a 12 day backpacking in New Mexico. I was worried about the thin tent material would not hold up. Many of the campsites were rocky, and rockier! I had no need to worry, this tent was made for the abuse. Note, I did pick up the footprint. This tent has many nifty features. Let’s face it, this tent is expensive but it’s super lightweight, and can take your abuse!

Coming from a heavier tent, it was amazing how light it was. Easy to build. Color codes to make sure you're building it the right way is super helpful.

This tent is perfect for two people. Light, easy to set up, and the small features are very thoughtful. Good pockets, breathability, plenty of storage locations inside the tent. I like the pocket for my glasses.

Perfect Upgrade

Likes

Replaced an older Eureka 2p tent with the Copper Spur HV UL3, and could not be more happy with it. The tent is very lightweight, especially for the space, however this is certainly most suitable for 2 people and maybe a dog/gear...but I believe this is well documented in any reviews already for this tent. Plenty of storage options inside, and generally well organized as a whole. The UL3 would even work for single backpacking at sub 4 pounds and packs down nicely. The materials are thin, but I believe that once you get past the initial touch-test, you will find it plenty durable. I have yet to encounter any real test of the tent in harsh weather (some rain and light wind), but on its initial outing I can say that I had zero issues to speak of. The tent pitches easily, is well vented, and really is a treat to stay in. You will not be disappointed. Not product related, but Enwild was very speedy with sending out the tent and I was happy to have it in hand by the end of the week, perfect to get the new gear out on trail! Very happy customer on all fronts.

Dislikes

The tent is certainly an investment, so it would be nice if the manufacturer would include the footprint, although I realize weight savings are always a factor, and other solutions are possible. Pretty standard practice, so no foul, but this tent will certainly require extra care and some sort of ground covering will be needed; know this if you are like me coming from a decade old shelter with more robust materials

Not real 2-season as it should be

Likes

Roomy great with very silk-material. I love it as it is my girlfriend's dress; super comfortable touching. Not really tiny pack-size but small enough for my 38l packback.

Dislikes

My first use is in one of the mountains in the North of Vietnam- Night is as around 26c.- Very light rain that night.- Foggy is less. - 3 people with a king air mattress.Result:- Quite much water drops inside.- Quite much water stocks inside of the wall.Final line:May want to return. As it is not worth it. Not as expected.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kJJEV7rH6rhgOyJ75nJVpU5M7u2hrHxv/view?usp=sharing

Hits all the Marks

Does everything well. Just took it out on Colorado trip and really liked it! It’s fairly lightweight for a 2-person tent but would absolutely not recommend it for a 3P tent. I don’t even know how it would be arranged. In any case, it was great all around tent for 2P with room. We have 2x 25” pads and had a few inches on each side for sacks and random bits. Easy to setup, plenty of guy lines and spots to secure the tent. The vestibule, which I thought was gimmicky, was actually pretty awesome. Provided a little shade and made an entry way to home. TONS of pockets for storage which was super convenient. Considering getting the 2P for my solo trip.

Dislikes

Zippers have some annoying issues, but nothing terrible. Only really happens when the vestibule doors aren’t taut. It’s thin, as most UL tents are, so we’ll so the longevity but the denier seems ideal. Not so thin like 10D/15D which seems impossibly thin and not too thick at 30D to save on weight.

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL3

My wife daughter and I set this tent up yesterday and tested it out. We loved the dual awnings that allowed for a very breezy interior, despite a very warm and sunny day. The awnings were great for getting out of the sun. We could sit comfortably under them in our Big Agnes Chair Ones. My two adult kids and I are hiking the Wonderland Trail (93 miles around the circumference of Mt. Rainier) next week. We will be taking this tent. The interior is roomy and will comfortably fit three adults along with three large Thermarest Neoair pads. The dual vestibules are very large and offer plenty of room for our packs and shoes. Internal height is excellent - plenty of room for three adults to sit up with room to spare to play cards and move around. Set up was a breeze. I bought the ground sheet to be able to set up the rainfly without the interior tent, which I expect will be very helpful in the event of rain or warm bug free weather. The tent compacts down to about 2/3rds if it’s packaged size, and at 4 lbs total weight with the footprint the average carry weight for 3 hikers is only about 1.3 lbs. per hiker.

Dislikes

One seam on one of the screen doors is poorly sewn. We don’t think it will affect the usability of the tent, but it is unsightly, From Big Agnes, and a $500 tent ($600 With footprint) I expected a flawless product. We don’t have time to return the tent for an exchange before our hike so we have decided to keep it and trust that If the seam fails Enwild and Big Agnes will do the right thing.
