Description

With its high-performance water-repellent DownTek insulation, water-resistant shell, and thermally-efficient semi-rectangular cut, the Big Agnes Mystic UL 15 Degree sleeping bag is built for 3-season backpacking.

The bag is insulated with premium 850 fill DownTek insulation. Down insulation has long been renowned for its compressible properties and efficiency in delivering an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. The shortcoming of down has been its susceptibility to the effects of moisture, losing much of its performance qualities when wet or damp. DownTek insulation utilizes nano technology and a proprietary application process to provide water-repellency and both anti-microbial and anti-bacterial protection. Nylon ripstop shell fabric features a water-repellent finish and provides lightweight durability. A nylon taffeta lining provides next-to-skin comfort. Insotect Flow technology is used to help eliminate cold spots and regulate the movement of down inside baffles to offer better body heat distribution

In a traditional sleeping system, the bag lies on top of a sleeping pad. In this configuration, many people find themselves rolling off the pad at night. Not only that, but the insulation on the bottom of the bag is often compressed by the sleeper's weight and, once compressed, the fill loses most of its insulating properties. The Big Agnes System is different and joins the bag and the pad together. A Flex Pad Sleeve on the bottom of the bag accommodates pads of varying lengths, widths, and thicknesses and ensures that the pad stays beneath you. It also enables the pad to deliver warmth and it allows Big Agnes to save weight and bulk by only lightly insulating the bottom of the bag itself. You'll stay warm and you can roll and move comfortably during the night without ever worrying about slipping off of your pad.

The bag is designed to be used with 20"-25" wide Big Agnes sleeping pads (sold separately) with an R-value or suggested temperature range to match the bag's temperature rating. Big Agnes does recommend using a rectangular pad for optimal performance.

The bag also features a contoured and insulated hood, an internal "barn" to keep a pillow (sold separately) comfortably beneath your head, a roomy footbox, a no-draft collar, and a draft tube behind the anti-snag side zipper. There are internal loops that enable you to use a liner (sold separately) and external loops for drying or storing the bag when not in use.

Available in Short (fits up to 5' 5"), Regular (5'10") , and Long (6' 6") size options, the Big Agnes Mystic UL 15 Degree sleeping bag includes a mesh storage sack and a stuff sack.

Big Anges gets better and better

Likes

I upgraded from a much used Big Agnes Lost Ranger 15 degree bag. I like that this new bag can accommodate a 25" wide pad, and is lighter than the Lost Ranger due to advancements, like lighter weight zipper and lighter insulation. The little pocket for things like phone and ear plugs is great, not to mention that the sleeping pad goes in much easier in this new design compared to the previous sleeve design.

Dislikes

This really isn't a 15 degree bag. Unless your a warm sleeper, add 10 degrees to the rating, then it's a perfect bag, and I'm still giving it 5 stars. Note, I'm using a Sea to Summit Etherlight XT insulated sleeping pad rated at 3.8 R value.

Solid Sleep System

Likes

This is a warm bag as long as it's being used with a warm pad as it is intended to be. I used it for 4 nights recently/late spring in the Yosemite high country, got nowhere near 15 degrees, but it served me very well. I love how it keeps you on your pad, also love the pocket that keeps your pillow in place, and the two way zip for foot venting. I am 6'2'' and got the long version to use in conjunction with my long/wide Nemo Tensor Insulated pad which made for an extremely comfortable combination. Also very compact when stuffed, and is about a pond lighter than my last bag. All in all, I am a big fan.

Dislikes

When using a long/wide (78/25) air pad made of lighter material like my Nemo, it can be a bit challenging to fit the sleeve over the pad as it stretches to it's limit, with a smaller pad, I doubt this would pose any challenge. That being said, after a few times, I got a system down that gets it in place without much difficulty, and the comfort it provides for a good nights rest is definitely worth the extra effort.

Great features, but temp rating is exaggerated

Likes

Very nice quality product! Great design. The features are great! Especially the mat sleeve. Love how it keeps me on the pad. Also the neck and zipper baffles are great. The hood is nice.

Dislikes

It really sleeps like a quilt because there is nothing under you. That is the design, and it's genius. But for a cold sleeper like me, it means this 15 degree bag slept colder than my 30 deg Western Mountaineering bag. I would need a 0 deg BA for teens. Kinda like their pads, BA over promises on the temp rating. They would do better to do as Western Mountaineering and under promise and over deliver. Add a couple of ounces of down and take it a few inches further around the bottom (which would avoid the draftiness) and you've got a bag that I could really use. As is it's just a bag for +/- 25 and I already have that arrow in my quiver.
