Utilizing water-repellent 650 fill DownTek insulation the Big Agnes Roxy Ann 15 Degree Women's sleeping bag is designed for 3-season backpacking.

Description

Utilizing water-repellent 650 fill DownTek insulation the Big Agnes Roxy Ann 15 Degree Women's sleeping bag is designed for 3-season backpacking. Not your average bag it utilizes the Big Agnes System to offer more internal space while packing smaller than other traditional bags.

Big Agnes ergonomically tailors its women’s bags to properly accommodate female backpackers and campers. These bags are cut wider at the hips and have a shorter overall bag length to ensure thermal efficiency. Additional insulation in the foot box and the core area of the sleeping bag account for those areas women most often find difficult to keep warm.

The bag is insulated with 650 fill DownTek insulation. Down insulation has long been renowned for its compressible properties and efficiency in delivering an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. The shortcoming of down has been its susceptibility to the effects of moisture losing much of its performance qualities when wet or damp. DownTek insulation utilizes nano technology and a proprietary application process to provide water-repellency and both anti-microbial and anti-bacterial protection. A nylon rip-stop shell also features a water repellent treatment and provides lightweight durability.

Insotect Flow technology is used to help eliminate cold spots regulate the movement of down inside the baffles and offer better body heat distribution. Strategically placed Flow Gate construction eliminates lateral and vertical down shifting by using vertical chambers with "gates" to control the position and density of the down insulation.

In a traditional sleeping system the bag lies on top of a sleeping pad. In this configuration many people find themselves rolling off the pad at night. Plus the insulation on the bottom of the bag is compressed by the sleeper's weight. Once compressed the fill loses most of its insulating properties. The Big Agnes System is different joining the bag and pad together. The pad slides into a sleeve on the bottom side of the bag supplying insulation to the otherwise uninsulated bottom of the bag while the top and sides of the bag are insulated like a traditional sleeping bag. This design provides a secure foundation so you can roll twist and turn freely during the night without ever rolling off your pad. It also prevents the bag from twisting and engulfing you in an uncomfortable mess. Big Agnes uses this system throughout their entire line of sleeping bags.

The Roxy Ann 15 Degree Women’s is available in Petite (fits up to 5' 6") and Regular (fits up to 5’10") lengths. Once you match your bag with a rectangular sleeping pad of the appropriate dimensions (20" x 66" for the Petite or 20" x 72" for the Regular) spending a night in the Roxy Ann Women’s 15 Degree is both warm and comfortable.

A number of performance features further equip the bag with thermal efficiency. A contoured insulated hood keeps your head warm and a no-draft collar keeps cold air from creeping in the top of the bag and reaching the bag’s interior. A full-length draft tube sewn behind the zipper further ensures that cold air remains outside of the bag. A no-draft wedge protects the connection between the bag and the pad so that cold air doesn't sneak in between the two. A stretch panel on the pad sleeve also doubles as astabilizer to keep your pillow from shifting around as you sleep.

Each Big Agnes Roxy Ann 15 Degree Women’s sleeping bag includes a nylon stuff sack and a mesh storage sack.

Could be good for some...

Likes

If roomy and attached to the pad are your priorities, this bag is good at both. It felt colder than other 15 degree rated bags, and I opted for something insulated all the way around paired with a pad that wasn't slippery and so did not require a sleeve on the bag.

Dislikes

Seemed less warm. Also realized something about the sleeve system as a tall person with no room to spare head to toe on a sleeping mat…the sleeve on the sleeping bag dictated placement of my body in the bag on the pad--lower than was ideal, so my feet were off the bottom edge but I had too much room above my head. Perhaps not an issue for someone short enough to have inches to play with in the bag/on the pad, but not good for me.

Great sleeping bag for backpacking

Likes

This is an awesome sleeping back for backpacking. I am 5'6" and ordered the regular size to have a little extra room. I tend to roll around in my sleep and fall off of my sleeping pad, so I am very excited to test out the pocket on the back which will keep the pad in place. It includes a stuff sack, and a mesh bag for storage, which could also double as a laundry bag.

Perfect Bag - Temp rating TBD

Likes

The pad sleeve is life changing for me, a side sleeper that changes side throughout the night. The draft tube is rugged and bountiful so no cold breezes will sweep in. The draft collar gives a fantastic tucked in feel. I'm 5"10" and have plenty of room in the regular from an overall length perspective. I also appreciate the fact that my pillow will fit in the pad sleeve under my sleeping bag.

Dislikes

I've seen many review from others regarding the bag not living up to temperature ratings. I just got the bag this spring and only slept in it at home in 50 degree temps with the window open to try and get a feel for things. So far I'm happy but will see this fall once temps drop again.
