The ultra-lightweight, breathable Black Diamond Men's Alpine Start Hoody is a long-time climbers' favorite hooded softshell that is also perfect four ounce-counting hikers and backpackers. The low-profile Schoeller softshell fabric shines in all seasons.

Description

Lightweight, packable weather protection without any excess bulk or weight: The hoody's Schoeller Eco-Repel Bio stretch-woven fabric is incredibly stretchy and breathable. Despite its feathery weight, it also offers excellent abrasion-resistance. The wind-resistant blend of nylon and elastane has a durable water-repellent finish that isn't waterproof but does a good job of fending off light precipitation.
Performance-oriented fit features: A close-fitting hood extends protection and has a low-profile, adjustable design that allows it to be worn comfortably over or under a helmet. Elastic cuffs and an elastic hem help ensure a precision fit.
Streamlined storage and built-in packability: A small zippered chest pocket stows small essentials and doubles as a self-stowing pocket that houses a carabiner clip loop so you can attach the jacket directly to your pack when not in use.

Boy, do I beat this piece up. Or try to at least. I wear it all the time and it just seems oblivious to wear-and-tear. It’s a great weight for any day where temperatures have me wanting just a little more coverage than a t-shirt or a baselayer and it’s a really great layer for climbing when I’m in and out of the shade or there’s just enough wind to cause a chill.
