A large-capacity pack with a high-performance suspension system and an array of organizational features, the Deuter Aircontact X 80+15 pack is an excellent option for extended backpacking, or frequent guiding.
The pack's Aircontact back system offers a combination of weight-carrying capability, ventilation, and fit-adjustable comfort. An internal Y-frame helps to transfer weight to your hips and reduce strain on your upper torso. Connected directly to the pivoting VariFlex hipbelt, the frame also helps to promote mobility and a full range of motion. Air Spacer mesh padding on the shoulder straps, the upper backpanel, the lumbar area of the backpanel, and the hipbelt fins helps to enhance comfort and aid in weight distribution. It also helps to enhance air flow to cut down on perspiration. The integrated VariSlide feature enables you to adjust the torso length quickly and easily to comfortably accommodating torsos ranging from 16.5" to 24.4". Load lifter straps, an adjustable sternum strap, and fit adjustability on the hipbelt combine to help you properly dial in fit and stabilize the load you're carrying.
The large main compartment has top loading access, and a large U-shaped front zipper enables to quickly put hands on gear or clothes without having to dump out the entire contents of the pack. A separate, lower compartment is designed to stow your sleeping bag. The top lid is height-adjustable which allows it to work in tandem with the drawstring-adjustable top collar of the packbag to expand storage capacity by an additional 15 liters. The lid's inner compartment contains a day pack for shorter hikes around camp and summit attempts. A zippered front pocket adds another five liters of capacity as needed. An internal sleeve and drinking tube pass-through make the pack hydration compatible (hydration system not included).
Other external storage options include stretch mesh side pockets, gear loops and adjustable bungees for trekking poles and tools, and compression straps that can be used to cinch the load down and secure other gear. The hipbelt has two detachable zippered pockets that add up to three liters of storage, and the right-hand pocket has a zip-out 1.5 liter bottle holster. Deuter even includes a detachable rain cover to offer protection in challenging conditions.
