Description

The versatile Deuter Trail Pro 30 SL Women’s technical day pack has a 1800+ cubic inch storage capacity, convenient access features, and numerous gear attachment points as well as a high-performance suspension system.

As women's backs are not, on average, as long or broad as men's backs, the SL carry system is slightly shorter than that of Deuter's standard backpacks. The hipbelt has been given a more conical shape to provide a proper anatomical fit. The shoulder straps of the SL packs have been set closer together are narrower and shorter in length. The SL pack is equipped with smaller buckles and narrower tapered strap ends to prevent chafing under the arms and eliminate pressure points in the chest area.

The pack's Aircontact Trail suspension system relies on the compression and expansion of twin foam columns to provide ventilation and load-carrying comfort. The channel between the two pads allows air to flow between your back and the pack itself. An elastic spring-steel frame offers lightweight support and stability. Soft, breathable fabrics and ventilated pads in the perforated shoulder straps and lumbar area help to keep you cool and comfortable on the trail. A padded, anatomically shaped hip belt with convenient “pull-forward” adjustability bolsters support and provides all-day comfort. A sternum strap and adjustable load-lifter straps further enhance fit. Internal compression straps with external adjustment points enable you to reduce and expand the size of the pack body as needed, securing contents and ensuring load stabilization.

A buckled lid allows top access to the pack. A large zippered entry on the front of the pack offers full front accessibility, giving you the ability to put hands on clothes or gear without opening the lid. An internal valuables pocket, a stretch mesh pocket on one side of the pack and a separate, zippered sleeping bag compartment at the bottom of the pack offer additional storage options.

Other special features include trekking pole loops, carabiner loops on the shoulder straps, zippered hip belt pockets, an integrated SOS panel, and an included rain cover. A lined internal pocket and a built-in tube exit point make the pack compatible with a hydration system (reservoir system not included).

Indecisiveness is a Missed opportunity

Likes

This pack was an upgrade from the Deuter Freerider Pro 28. I loaded it up with five 32oz Nalgene water bottles, a large 11x8x6 toiletry bag, a diaper clutch style Bag, headlamp, gloves, hand sanitizer, sunscreen and several snack bars. It was so comfortable to carry. I am not certain if that is due to a better pack or a different packing approach. With the pack on it wasn’t stuffed and looked half empty almost. I specifically chose this bag because of its unique u-zip and divider. I stowed the water bottles in the bottom and everything else up above. I appreciate it’s sleek design, stowable tool loop and two side stretchy pockets. Unfortunately, my indecisiveness lead to a missed opportunity for a more thorough assessment. 3/6/20 “I broke down and purchased this pack once more. Originally it was going to be my 2nd grader’s bag, but I decided now is the most opportune moment for a more thorough test. I have worn this pack pacing my backyard for a few hours day, 15 consecutive days. With my gear and pack it weighs in at 26lbs. The first few days the pack was fine for about 60-75 minutes or so. However On day 11 I feel like this pack Is not for me, especially at the 180 minute mark. My torso length is 18 7/8ths so let’s conclude it’s damn near a 19. I really want to like this pack. I absolutely love it’s sleek design, storable tool loop and stretchy side pockets. I also appreciate that it doesn’t look like a normal backpacker’s pack. Yes it has it’s shortcomings that I mentioned from a previous review. I also would not recommend wearing a tank top with this pack. However I think most packs wouldn’t be comfortable while wearing a tank top. Unfortunately, as much as I adore this pack I have decided to exchange it for something else if I find one that strikes my fancy. Again, I really wanted this pack to be the one pack of my dreams come true. It may very well be the pack for you, however as much as I am fond of this pack I still feel like something is missing and unfortunately this one is not for me.”

Dislikes

I did miss the big fleece lined sunglasses/googles pocket like the one on the Freerider Pro 28. The slash pocket doesn’t hold much for my needs. I really wanted to like this pack, but something was missing; I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I will clarify I never did take it out for a more thorough test. I loaded it up and walked around the house in 10min increments for several days. I had an upcoming trip and ultimately decided to exchange it for the Mountainsmith scream 50 WSD because apparently I needed a much bigger pack.
