Description

The Granite Gear Crown2 60 pack sports an innovative lightweight suspension, trail-friendly organizational features, and weighs in under 2 pounds! This combination of features is ideal for ultra-lightweight backpacking and thru-hiking.

Equipped with Granite Gear's VC Mark 2 Frame System, the pack employs a compression molded polypropylene framesheet, a molded foam backpanel, and an overlay of durable, laminated mesh to effectively carry weight, provide load stability, and deliver ventilation to help keep you cool. Despite its lightweight design, the pack comfortably carries up to 35 pounds. Padded shoulder straps and a padded, size-adjustable (28”-40”) hipbelt further enhance comfort and stability. To ensure an optimal fit, the pack is available in Regular (fits torso lengths ranging from 18"-21") and the Long (21"-24" torsos) size options. An adjustable sternum strap and load-lifter straps provide fine-tuned fit adjustment.

The top-loading 3660 cubic inch-capacity packbag is accessed through a wide-opening roll-top entry. A top lid protects additional storage and can be removed entirely to save on weight. Lightweight compression straps let you cinch down the packbag to keep contents safely stowed. A large front shove-it pocket serves as an additional storage space and twin side mesh pockets are perfect for water bottles or other gear. Large zippered hipbelt pockets keep valuables and essentials close at hand.

The Granite Gear Crown2 60 internal frame backpack is available in your choice of sizes.

I like it

Likes

I used it this weekend on 15 mile backpacking trip. It is so light! The roll top is great, and the design of the securing strap makes for a nice gear loop if you don't have the bag filled too high. I strapped it over a 2 person tent and still had enough of the loop hanging down under the lid to hang a pair of shoes from it. My gear weight was right at 23lbs, and I didn't have the discomfort issue others seem to have had. It certainly wasn't as comfortable as a rigid frame bag with an adjustable suspension, but "uncomfortable" isn't what I would call it. The stitching and materials all seem good, but the bag is so basic there's really nothing unique or innovative to like about it. It just needs to do it's job and not fall apart in the process.

Dislikes

It would absolutely benefit from more gear loops and their weight would be a nonfactor. All you get are the two on the bottom and they don't even have the straps to make them worth having. The lid has four tiny ones, but their usage is severely limited. I've got half a mind to cut the loops off the bottom and resew them on the top somewhere. The bag squeaks. Not loudly, but you can hear it rubbing around when you walk. My guess is it's the back material rubbing on the frame sheet. If you're handy with a sewing machine you might be able to make a sleeve for it to shut it up. Even spraying it with some silicone might do the trick. There is near zero ventilation with this thing and I'm pretty sure the padding is only there to prevent gear from bulging out into your back. Also, mine doesn't have the mesh cover. It's just padding, but whatever. The load lifters are fiddly. Because the frame sheet isn't rigid the whole bag likes to pull when you tighten the lifter straps. They'll get (and stay) tight, but you have to work at it. None of these things make me dislike the bag, though. It's superlight, does what it's supposed to and does it acceptably comfortably, and it doesn't feel cheap.

Everyone loves it, but it's a NO for me.

I did a lot of research before making this purchase. The pack looks well made. It looks like it would be durable. I like the roll top and cinch strap. None of this was a surprise to me......

Dislikes

What came as a surprise to me was the comfort was JUST NOT THERE. I loaded the pack with 17 pounds and wore it around the house, and back and forth a few times up and down my long driveway and I had some issues. The problem with the pack is that even when properly sized with the hip belt on your hips right where it should be, the main part of the pack hangs down lower than the hip belt and the pack was hitting my butt with every step. (I don't have a big butt, I'm 5'9" -150lbs). Within just a few minutes, I could already feel my glutes getting sore. So I had to return it. Now, I will say this....ENWILD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS BETTER THAN ANY I HAVE HAD SINCE I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER WHEN. (btw, I purchased the medium size)

Great lighweight pack

Likes

Adjustable waist belt, rolltop, can easily fit a bear canister.

Dislikes

Hard to access water bottles in the side pockets. Positioning the bottle diagonally helps for accessing but putting them back is hard.

Great pack, one limitation

Likes

Size, weight, ability to lighten pack weight by removing the lid and/or frame sheet, expandable 'collar' that turns an essentially 40 L pack into a 60L, like having two different size packs, , roll-top closure, ability to carry load comfortably, adjustable waist belt, a sternum strap that is actually useful, good looking pack. Very easy carry.

Dislikes

When expandable collar is fully deployed it can make weight off balance that effects hiking and river crossings since it is not under the frame's control.

Great fit

Likes

I really like the weight and overall features. I just received the pack and was impressed with the construction as well. Looking forward to putting it to the test in August 2020, doing 40 miles on the wonderland trail (Mt Rainier). Got it at a good price as well!

Capability and capacity

Likes

Spot on with prior positive comments about large capacity, allowing max flex for packing. Ext compartment, adjustable hip belt, and overall fit and function are excellent. 6’2” 215lb, large frame fit well.

Dislikes

None. Look fwd to longer treks with the pack.

Best pack ever

Likes

I got this pack to replace a much heavier one. I finally got to use it on a 18 mile trip along the Black mountain Crest trail and Mt. Mitchell trail the pack worked better than anticipated and fit very well the zipper on the brain was easily accessible while hiking and the straps across the back were very useful in strapping down my jacket. Love this pack!

Dislikes

The mesh pockets on the sides could be more easily accessible almost have to take the pack off to get out your water bottle
