Description

Weighing just 2.5 pounds but still providing load-hauling support and organizational features, the innovative Gregory Optic 48 internal frame backpack is ideal for ounce-counting hikers and backpackers.

The pack's suspension system utilizes a perimeter frame constructed of ultra-lightweight 7001 aluminum and includes anti-barreling support to ensure that weight is balanced and stabilized. Weight is transferred to the load-bearing lumbar support to minimize fatigue on your shoulders and back. A ventilated backpanel and dual-density padding in the contoured harness and hipbelt combine to increase comfort, fit, and breathability. Load lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap further enhance fit and ensure stability. To ensure a customized fit, the pack is available in Small (best fits 16"-18" torso lengths), Medium (18"-20"), and Large (20"-22") size options.

The top-loading pack offers more than 3300 cubic inches of storage capacity. A protective top lid includes internal storage but can also be removed entirely when the additional storage isn't needed or you simply want to travel lighter. Even with the lid removed, a small, buckled flap protects the interior of the packbag. A large front stretch pocket enables you to keep discarded layers or other gear close at hand. Side compression straps allow you to cinch down the packbag to keep the contents of the pack stabilized and also double as external lash points.

Other features include large side stretch water bottle pockets, zippered hipbelt pockets, trekking pole attachments, a front harness quick-stow feature for sunglasses, and an included raincover. An integrated sleeve and exit port make the pack hydration compatible (hydration system sold separately).

The Gregory Optic 48 internal frame backpack is available in your choice of size and color options.

  • AeroSpan suspension offers 360 degree moisture wicking ventilation and tensioned perimeter frame load management while maintaining a lightweight design
  • Ventilated dual-density FocusForm shoulder harness and extra supportive hipbelt with targeted comfort zones
  • Leaf-spring lumbar pad for comfortable, energy-saving load transfer
  • Ultralight 7001 aluminum perimeter frame with anti-barreling support
  • Removable top lid
  • Ultralight weather flap for use without top lid
  • Raincover included in top pocket
  • Sunglass quickstow
  • Front stretch mesh pocket

Great lightweight pack

Likes

Weight, fit, and features. I have 3 Gregory packs and this one didn’t disappoint. I have the small and 48L accommodated what I needed for a 4 day trip.

Dislikes

Some of the buckles and tie downs can be challenging to adjust. Since they are all small to keep weight down, it takes some patience to adjust.

Size: Perfect weekend / Tru-hike / Camino pack. Lightweight Sunglass holder - very nice. Hipbelt pockets Simple RAIN COVER!!!

Dislikes

Would like more shoulder strap loops Hipbelt pockets a bit too small - especially for phone.

Great pack. Lots of extra outside pocket room. Brain of the pack is nice too. Plenty of room inside, and has lots of lashing points too.

A good Gregory production

Likes

With a awesome durable material.. Perfect lightweight, well side pocket for a water bottle and perfect sizing..

Dislikes

The hip belt pocket are too small and between the centre of both shoulder strap are too wide (have a hot-spots on my neck).. Maybe is cause of mine personal walking style..

Better than the Osprey Exos

Likes

A hiking buddy and I both ordered new packs this spring. I went with the Gregory Optic 48 and he went with the Osprey Exos 48. They are very similar in every aspect but we both prefer the Gregory for a few minor advantages like mine having hip belt pockets and his does not. My size medium weighs 2.47 lbs. It is rated for up to 30lbs although I haven’t had a wet weight over 15lbs yet. I’m totally confident that it could do that or more for longer/winter excursions. The shoulder straps and suspension feel beefy for such a light bag. It has everything you’d expect from a pack in this class. My personal favorites are the elastic sunglass holder on the shoulder strap, and the diagonally forward facing slots in the stretch mesh side pouches. While it has the normal top openings as well, smart water bottles ride perfectly there to drink on the move. Combined with the hip belt pockets for snacks and a mosquito head net, you’ll have to admit you’re tired if you want to stop for a minute..

Dislikes

I can’t think of a single dislike. Do be aware that you need to know your size before ordering because the shoulder straps are not adjustable. This is another plus, making it that much more minimalist.
