Amazing Service

Because you deserve it.

Due to BPA concerns, GSI Outdoors has ceased to use Lexan polycarbonate in its tableware. Rather than allowing old product to end up in a landfill, GSI Outdoors has recycled the Lexan to build the Cathole Trowel, a sturdy backcountry tool.

Description

Due to BPA concerns, GSI Outdoors has ceased to use virtually unbreakable Lexan polycarbonate in its tableware and food storage products. Rather than allowing old product and materials to end up in a landfill, GSI Outdoors has landed on the perfect solution by recycling the Lexan and unveiling the Cathole Trowel, a durable backcountry tool. Serrated edges make for easy digging even in the most stubborn soil.

GSI Outdoors is donating 1% of the sales of the Cathole Trowel to Leave No Trace, an organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors. Leave No Trace usage guidelines are molded into the back of each Cathole Trowel. NOTE: Due to the use of recycled content, colors may vary slightly.

The shovel i received was grey, not like the green in the picture. Not that I care, but the green was kinda cool :)

Does it's job. It was really cheap. It has the leave no trace guidelines with proper measurements on it. Its pretty lightweight, but I guess not super ultra hipster lightweight.

Dislikes

The picture should be updated for those who care (I don't), but it's more transparent than green

Does what it was mean't to do.

Likes

I like the measurements on it and the fact that it's recycled. Mine is clear but who cares. It's for digging poop holes. Heck of a turd trowel.

Dislikes

It's supposed to be made from their unbreakable plastic products but somehow it feels brittle. Probably not though. If so, it was only $5 instead of $25-$30 for a deuce of spades. Ill take a couple extra ounces to save $25.

Digs holes consistently and affordably

Likes

I won't be caught in the backcountry without this trowel. Sure, some ultralight backpackers scoff at the idea of carrying a trowel. When nature calls however, improvising a way to dig is about the last thing I want to do. This product admirably handles the job of digging sufficiently deep holes. The handle is comfortable for holding, with ribbing to lighten the weight. Embossed instructions on the back and depth markers on the front help you to leave no trace.

Dislikes

At 3.1 oz, it's not the lightest trowel around, but it's still pretty light.

Strong and light

Likes

Very lightweight, very sturdy. I like the handy "leave no trace" instructions on the back that outline how to properly, uhh, go poo in the forest. I also like the measurement marks to ensure you are digging to the proper depth.

Dislikes

I could see it breaking if you hit a rock or a hard root but that's likely true of any plastic trowel.

It's not always something you think about needing when you go out camping, but it's definitely important. It's a strong and durable trowel, and the Leave No Trace usage guidelines are a nice touch.

Dislikes

Nothing. I have no complaints.

Wife thought it was a knife. has a lot of jagged edges. Seems light and made from recycled products. It'll work for it is designed for and maybe a few other functions.
