Works good, but is heavy and bulky
Likes
This filter works just fine and would be ideal if you have a group of people and need to pump a lot of water, as it pumps a large volume fast.
Dislikes
This filter is on the heavy side and takes up a lot of room in my pack. I only need enough water for me and my wife so this is overkill. I have switched to a mini filter that only weighs a few ounces and can fit in my pocket. It is slow, but that's OK since I only need enough water for two people.

Good overall

Filters water quickly and screws onto my water bottle very easily so I don't need to use the output tube.
Dislikes
Feels slightly heavier than I expected.

Worked like a charm in Panthertown, NC. Other hikers were asking to use mine! Very quick and easy - no slowdown.

A bit bigger than others but worth it!

Worth the Weight

It was this or the hiker pro. For me, half the time pumping ice cold lake water while perched awkwardly on a rock or log is worth the seven extra ounces. I'm usually with a group, though. A solo hiker might disagree. The vario is also much more comfortable to operate than the hiker pro and it feels sturdier.
Dislikes
Weight. Without packaging, the filter and hoses weigh about 16.7 oz. Changing the setting requires taking the filter apart. The Connection point for the input hose protrudes and seems fragile. If it snaps off, the filter will be useless.

As soon as I have receive the Filter we went out backpacking right away, and when we tried the filter the water is very clear and the taste is very good. Since this is the 1st time we use it I don't know how long would it last. but this is worth the money for these kind of filter.

As advertised, lightweight, compact and efficient. Have not had to use it a lot, but great when needed. Small enough to carry - just in case needed.

I finally had a chance to get out and use my Vario now that the deep freeze has lifted. I filled my 1L Platy bottle in about 30 seconds on the longer life filter setting. The filtered water was crystal clear and had no bad taste, a result of the carbon filter core. The pumping motion was intuitive as well.
Dislikes
The plastic bag that came with the unit to store the output (clean) hose tore just under the zip closure. Not a fault of the filter, but definitely something i"ll have to find a more durable replacement for.

Easy to use and does a great job. Really like how fast it can filter water.
