Description

The Kelty Zyp 38 backpack features a suspension system that adapts to different torso lengths on the fly and a breezy ventilation design. These great features, combined with a host of other useful attributes, make this pack suitable for long day hikes or minimalist summer overnights.

The suspension uses Kelty’s PerfectFit system, allowing easy, on-body adjustments to fit torsos ranging from 16 to 22 inches. This pack has comfortable tensioned-mesh panels at the shoulders and lumbar region with open space between. This arrangement minimizes contact between your back and the pack, preventing sweat accumulation and allowing air to circulate freely. This pack utilizes a lightweight perimeter frame for efficient load transfer. The shoulder straps and hip belt are adjustable. Load-lifter straps reduce stress on your shoulders by taking pressure off the shoulder straps and transferring weight to the hip belt. The adjustable sternum strap allows you to properly position the shoulder straps on your body and thereby prevent uncomfortable rubbing.

This is a top-loading pack with a large zippered pocket on the lid to provide additional storage. You can also access the main compartment through a side zipper. This pack has a two large, stretchy shove-it pockets for storing bulky items or wet things that you’d like to keep out of the main compartment. The pack’s volume is approximately 2319 cubic inches (38 liters) and the pack weighs 3 lbs 4 oz.

Other features include two zippered hip belt pockets for small items like snacks and keys. Two large external stretch pockets accommodate bottles. Lateral compression straps snug the pack closer to the frame, increasing stability. Sleeping pad straps on the bottom can secure other gear or provide further compression, and trekking pole loops provide a way to carry poles.

The Kelty Zyp 38 pack is available in your choice of color options.

* Suspension concept is a great start * love the double kangaroo pockets on the front! * side zipper entrance for top lid

Dislikes

The suspension system was promising and because I still own and LOVE my kelty external frame I wanted to try the Zyp. I loaded the 38L to 30 lbs (middle of the 20-40lb range suggested) and on a short 8 mile hike I got neck and shoulder fatigue despite numerous adjustments. It just didn't work out for me. Disclaimer though - the Osprey AG suspension that is a huge favorite also killed my neck and shoulders so I know some people will LOVE this pack!. Just didn't work for me. The hip belt pockets were really shallow and I do think a raincover is always nice. Gave it 3 stars even though I had to return because it is a simple and well designed pack and that suspension will work wonderful for many folks
