Description

LEKI's Sherpa trekking poles are ready for years of all-season performance. Sturdy aluminum construction, ergonomic extended grips, and a wide range of adjustability make this a pole you can depend on for backpacking and mountaineering.

Incorporating a positive angle that preserves a natural position for your wrists, the dynamic lightweight Aergon Air Thermo grips have an ovoid shape that can be palmed or held traditionally. Rubberized tops with a diamond surface pattern offer textured grip points and lightweight easy-to-adjust straps reduce stress on your wrists and provide additional security and comfort. The extended length of the grips allows you to grasp lower on the shafts, eliminating the need to shorten the length of the poles every time you encounter a steep slope or side hill traverse.

A telescoping design with three aluminum shaft sections gives these poles durability and reliability out on the trail. By utilizing the integrated easy-to-use Speed Lock 2 Plus levers, you can adjust the length of the poles from 43.3"-57.1".

Carbide flex tips deflect up to 30 degrees without damaging the lower pole sections. This reduces the risk of pole breakage if poles get caught between rocks or tree roots on the trail. Low profile trekking baskets are installed on the poles and can be swapped with the included Big Mountain Binding Baskets or other interchangeable baskets (sold separately).

Nice!

Likes

These are very strong poles and great for strenuous climbs, so much better than my nearly ancient Komperdell Raptors they replaced, and will practically shove you up the mountain. The poles are 18/16/14 and very stiff with no shock absorption. The handles are dense foam, form fitting and comfortable even with sweaty palms and provide a good amount of relief from vibration. The extended grips are the same foam and offer good traction. The tops are perfect for palming on descents and feels a lot more like a modern shifter knob than the top of a trekking pole handle. Since you don't have to move your hand all the way to the tops, the transition from handle to tops and back again is very smooth and fast. The wrist straps are soft and slippery, making them easy to slide in and out of and they don't bind when moving your hands to the tops. The concave tips bite deep on rock even at sketchy angles.

Dislikes

I don't dislike anything about them, but you should know that the stiffness of the poles and lack of any shock absorption means they're very jarring on hard surfaces. Conclusion: Excellent poles for mountain use, which is what they were made for, but not a good choice for anything else.
