The award-winning Mountain Hardwear Mineral King 3 tent has a design focus on true livability and maximizing internal space that is ideal for camping, but it comes in at a weight that gives it backpacking versatility too. The three-person tent also has the added value of an included protective footprint.
The tent has a roomy 42.5 square foot interior which is ample room for up to 3. It is easily accessed by two large D-shaped doors that tuck neatly out of the way in dedicated stash pockets when you want to really open up the interior. Vestibules in front of each door offer a combined 20.9 square feet of weather-protected external storage space which also helps to increase internal livability by giving packs, boots, and other gear a place to hide. Five interior mesh pockets provide paces to safely stow phones, headlamps, and other small items.
By employing prebends in its hubbed DAC aluminum press fit pole system, the tent's architecture increases the verticality of the sidewalls and creates corresponding extra space, so inhabitants enjoy better elbow room and simply feel less cramped. The poles also give the tent freestanding structure though stakes are included to ensure a taut pitch.
The canopy of the tent is primarily polyester mesh which provides excellent ventilation to cut down on condensation. This also allows you to stargaze from inside the tent when weather and skies cooperate. If weather takes a turn you can easily roll down the rainfly to batten the hatches. Both the fly and the bathtub-style floor are constructed of durable 68D ripstop polyester with a 1500mm PU coating to ensure total weather protection. All seams are tape sealed and a custom-fit footprint is included to further protect the floor of the tent from sharp objects, mud, and ground water.
