The roll-top Mountainsmith Zerk 40 pack refuses to be pigeon-holed. The lightweight, well-organized pack can be used for extended fast-packing, ultra-running, or weekend backpacking trips. The 40 liter pack has customizable features that enable you to strip weight down to just 1 pound, 9 ounces!
With weight-savings top of mind, the pack has a minimalist backpanel that provides streamlined cushioning. Broad perforated EVA foam shoulder straps and a 1.5” waistbelt help to distribute the load being carried without adding extraneous weight. The waistbelt can even be removed entirely when not needed or simply to reduce weight. The pack utilizes high-tenacity nylon and Spectra ripstop fabrics to effectively balance weight and durability. Even with its ultra-lightweight build, the pack is still capable of comfortably carrying up to 30 pounds.
The pack provides a maximum 2440 cubic inches of storage capacity but also compresses down to a streamlined 1952 cubic inches (32 liters). The large main compartment is accessed through a wide-opening roll-top closure. A huge front stretch mesh pocket offers expansive external storage. Two large side stretch mesh pockets add even more carrying capacity for water bottles or other gear. The pack also delivers “up front” storage with two large mesh pockets on each side of the shoulder straps. Other features include front bungee attachment loops, removable bear canister attachment loops, a safety whistle built into the sternum strap buckle, and reflectivity to enhance low-light visibility.
