Description

Effectively balancing weight, livability, and affordability, the NEMO Firefly 2P tent delivers reliable 3-season backpacking performance at a minimum weight of just 3 pounds!

Measuring 88" x 50" at its widest point and tapering to 45" at the feet, the tent offers 29 square feet of interior space. This volume combined with a 41" peak height makes the tent suitable for up to two backpackers and also allows it to serve as a roomy solo shelter. The tent has two doors for easy entry and vestibules in front of each door provide a total of 17.2 square feet of external storage space. Integrated pockets further maximize interior space by allowing you to store clothes and gear off of the floor.

A hubbed aluminum pole system makes set-up easy. A second aluminum pole crosses the top of the tent to help to increase the verticality of the sidewalls and maximize overall livability. No-see-um mesh sidewalls ward off insects and maximize airflow to cut down on condensation. The 15D Sil/PeU ripstop rainfly and 68D PU polyester floor have a weatherproof coating to help keep the interior of the tent dry. A custom-fit footprint (sold separately) is available to further protect the floor of the tent from sharp objects, mud and ground water.

The NEMO Firefly 2P tent includes a unique Divvy Sack for ease of transport and storage. The 2-stage stuff sack allows backpackers to share the carry weight of the tent.

  • Hubbed aluminum pole system
  • Tapered floor plan saves while increasing room at the head
  • Rainfly securely snaps onto poles for easy tensioning and increased weather protection
  • Privacy mesh allows for full visibility of the night sky while limiting visibility into the tent
  • Divvy Sack included

Nice but lacks headroom when sleeping

Likes

Great size and material. Plenty of room to stretch out. Light but not ultralight.

Dislikes

Mainly, there is not as much headroom when you're sleeping. Feels a bit claustrophobic as your head is near the tapered end of the tent. The middle of the tent is spacious, but I was surprised how confined the tent felt when sleeping.

Early impressions...

Likes

I only gave this 4 stars because I haven't field tested it, so I didn't want to give it a full 5 since I don't know how it will perform in the backcountry. I've only set it up once in my backyard, but I wanted to leave an initial review since this is a new model and reviews are limited. First, it's very lightweight, just over 3lbs with everything (except a footprint). During the two nights in my backyard, condensation was minimal, and it's fairly humid in TN (although this was also early April, so not as bad in general). Setup is super easy, and it packs down small enough to go in the sleeping bag compartment of both my 36L and 50L Osprey packs. (My sleeping bag is a Nemo Forte 20, so being synthetic and kind of wide, it doesn't compress as well, so I carry it rolled up in a longer narrow stuff sack on the outside of my pack, and will put the tent in the sleeping bag compartment). This tent is basically the same as the Dragonfly, except for a few minor changes. The fabrics are a bit different, most notably the floor, which is 68D on the Firefly. This was the selling point since I often take my 70lb Lab along. The other difference is the white mesh around the sides (black mesh on top). This may take some getting used to, but apparently provides more privacy in daylight with the fly off. I believe this has only one stake point for the vestibule compared to the Dragonfly, which has 2 stake points. I'll come back to this and edit the review once I take it backpacking for a full weekend, but so far, so good!!

Dislikes

Nothing yet. The white mesh is a little different. It's reflective, so when you're inside with a lantern, you can't see through it very well, but not a big deal since your rainfly will typically be on anyway.
