Description

Innovative upper achieves an excellent strength-to-weight ratio: Made of a unique blend of monofilament polyester and TPE, the upper is lightweight but also highly-abrasion resistant so it holds up mile-after-mile and day-after-day. It is craft-stitched directly to the midsole which also increases durability. Asymmetrical lacing and a stretch tongue gusset grant a comfortable, anatomical fit and eliminate pressure points. A protective cap and reinforced materials in the toe reduce the impact of rocks and roots.
Cushioning, supportive midsole design provides "all day" performance: The shoe's Eexpure midsole uses a plush layer of supercritical EVA foam to deliver high-energy rebound. It maintains its structure much longer than traditional foams so you can count on getting tons of mileage out of the life of the shoe. An Ortholite footbed enhances comfort, arch-support, and overall fit. Rockered midsole geometry promotes forward propulsion without sacrificing stability.
Vibram outsole provides confident grip on dirt or rock: A Vibram Litebase outsole has a "sticky" yet durable surface and toothy 5mm lugs but is significantly lighter and thinner than standard Vibram outsoles. The result is you get the dependable traction and long-term durability with reduced weight and bulk. With a 33mm heel and a 25mm forefoot, the shoe has a moderate 8mm drop.

The Tomirs have quickly become my mountain-running workhorse shoes. At a quick glance, the rockered architecture may look a little bulky, but the shoes actually aren’t bulky at all and are surprisingly lightweight. The first Nnormal model I ran in was the sleek Kjerag which I still love for shorter runs, but I turn to the Tomir and its deeper cushioning for full days out and/or really technical terrain. The Vibram outsoles offer really toothy traction and do a great job shedding mud and debris. I’ve logged several hundred miles on my current pair and both the outsoles and the woven uppers look relatively unscathed and the midsole still feels like new. Honestly, they look like shoes I’ve been wearing for a couple of weeks not the several months that they’ve been in use.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d like these shoes, but after several runs on the rocky trails of Pennsylvania, I’m hooked. The cushioning is perfect—firm and springy without feeling squishy—so it never feels like I’m sinking into a pair of marshmallows. It does a great job absorbing impact from sharp rocks and roots, which means I can stay focused on the trail ahead instead of constantly looking at my feet and scanning for where to tiptoe next. I also really like that the tread is aggressive and 'sticky' — it grips well on loose gravel and slick rocks without feeling bulky underfoot. Altogether, that adds up to a level of confidence that takes the edge off technical terrain and lets me actually enjoy the run.
