Designed specifically for alpine and climbing excursions, the bombproof Osprey Mutant 38 safely and securely carries the gear you need without excess bulk. Climbing-specific organization and features help you get to the summit and back down safely.
Aluminum support stays and an Atilon framesheet lend the pack lightweight structure and load-balancing stability. When you aren't carrying a heavy load and don't need as much support or just want to reduce the weight of the pack itself, you can remove the stays and/or the framesheet entirely. A ridged EVA foam backpanel cushions the load and sheds snow easily. Padded shoulder straps enhance fit and load-hauling capability, as does a contoured hipbelt. The adjustable sternum strap also has a built-in emergency whistle.
Available in two sizes, the Small/Medium accommodates torso lengths ranging from 14"-17" and the Medium/Large best fits 17"-21" torso lengths.
The top-accessed main packbag has a protective lid that can be removed entirely to reduce the weight of the pack. A zippered pocket in the lid aids in gear storage and organization. An integrated FlapJacket panel pulls forward to protect the packbag when the lid has been removed.
The pack is designed to carry an abundance of climbing and alpine gear. There are reinforced loops for A-frame ski carry, dual side wand/snow picket pockets, dual ToolLocks with bungee tie-offs, a removable multi-position helmet carry net, three-point haul system, and a hipbelt with gear loops and ice gear attachment points. Other features include multiple compression straps, removable webbing attachment straps, front panel daisy chain loops (compatible with Voile straps; sold separately), glove friendly buckles, a rope attachment point, and an internal sleeve for a hydration reservoir (sold separately).
Made with bluesign approved materials and featuring a PFC/PFAS-free DWR, the pack has a lightweight but durable construction you can rely on in high-intensity situations. Gridded Nanofly (UHMWPE) panels are extremely tough and abrasion resistant.
