Description

The Osprey Porter 46 travel pack delivers load-carrying capability has 2807 cubic inches of storage capacity and provides a comfortable fit. Its full dimensions are 22" x 14" x 11" but it has potential to be compressed for domestic carry-on use (check with airline provider).

Padded shoulder straps allow you to comfortably carry the pack and tuck away entirely when not needed or for ease of overhead storage. An integrated adjustable sternum strap and stowable hipbelt further enhance fit. Built-in attachment points give you the option of using a strap (not included) for over-the-shoulder carry.

With 2807 cubic inches of storage capacity the pack offers ample room for carrying clothes and gear. The main packbag is accessed by a wide-opening front panel zipper. Other pockets include a zippered top pocket for quick access to toiletries and a large front panel organizational pocket. A protected rear panel has a quick-access zippered laptop/tablet sleeve that is highly convenient for security checkpoints. Internal zippered pockets aid in the organization and separation of contents. Osprey's patented external StraightJacket compression system ensures that everything remains snugly in place while you are on the move.

"Add On" compatibility means that you can attach the Osprey Daylite or Daylite Plus accessory pockets (sold separately) to increase storage and maximize the versatility of the pack by equipping it with a detachable daypack.

Not great for wearing long term

Likes

Large size, but still fits most standards for carry-on luggage size. I used this and only this on a 2 week trip to Sydney and the north island of New Zealand. In New Zealand I went on a bus based tour, where we were constantly moving between cites and new accommodations. This was great for the quick paced travel style. Best feature is the wide U shape zipper, makes for easy access! Sturdy top and side handle convenient for while not wearing on back. Straps pack away. Sturdy/durable quality materials.

Dislikes

Green color is not easy to keep clean. Hipbelt and suspension is not comfortable for wearing for longer than intermittently, especially when carrying a large load. I had to walk about 2 miles with this pack fully loaded in hot weather and it was horrible. If you're planning on carrying this for any length of time go for a true backpacking pack, their hip belts and suspension systems are far superior. If you plan to: 1. travel where rolling luggage would be inconvenient 2. wear it only inttermittently such as at the airport 3. use vehicle-based transport, so you're not doing a lot of walking with it on ... then definitely consider this pack

Like a suitcase, but better

Likes

The Porter 46 has as much interior space as my carryon suitcase, but with the tremendous benefit of real shoulder straps and a real hip belt. The suspension system is not padded like a backpack, but it is definitely padded adequately for the amount of weight that is allowed in carryon luggage. I have also used it as a daypack, snowshoeing with approximately 20# inside, and found it very comfortable. The laptop/tablet storage is well designed, and I especially like the way the large compression wings can be used to store a jacket or other oddball item on the exterior of the pack. The top, bottom, and side handles are excellent. The whole construction is very rugged.

Dislikes

Storing the suspension is a little fiddly, as each shoulder strap needs to be unclipped in two places before you can stow it, and the hip belt needs to slide into a rather tight compartment. Also, the shape is such that when fully loaded, the pack will not stand on either its bottom or side. If not leaned up against something, it falls over. But compared with the benefits of this pack, these are minor qualms.

excellent

Likes

superb quality and designs, overall great bag like it so much I bought the 46 AND 32 depending on how much I want to carry

Dislikes

the hip belt/support is actually not as robust as on the 32 The outer pouch that has all the great divided compartments does not have luggage lock spot on the zippers, only the main compartment

Great pack!

Likes

I like how it is a duffel style bag that makes a killer backpack. There's a ton of space, and organizational pockets throughout. The color is unique and subtle and the compression straps are really useful.

Dislikes

The organizational pocket sometimes does not hold smaller items.

The best carry-on pack!

Likes

The full length zippers that allow you to pack your belongings like a suitcase. The versatility with the support straps, grab handles, and being able to easily tuck the straps inside itself. I’m 5’5 and my bf is 5’10, athletic builds and we both found the pack very comfortable. The additional compartments make it easy to stay organized. Osprey really thought this pack out! I ordered this is Mineral Teal and love the color. Made it super easy to identify my bag (when My carryon goes priority on small planes).

Dislikes

Though the pack is comfortable, it would be nice if the shoulder straps had more padding.

Another Great Osprey Product

Likes

Chose this over the traditional "computer bag type". Unique design allows for protection and compression at two levels of compactness. Great to be able to open and pack from top rather than stuff. Also, was able to easily strap my Gregory day pack to the outside if needed.

Dislikes

Maybe could use one more zippered pocket just because I like a lot of pockets but is functional as is.
