Description

Weighing just over 3.5 pounds while comfortably carrying up to 40 pounds the Osprey Stratos 50 pack has delivers technical performance for overnight and weekend backpacking trips.

Employing Osprey's Airspeed Suspension the pack’s tensioned mesh back panel provides flexible support and breathability to combat heat build-up between your back and the pack body. Both the hipbelt and harness straps are padded with die-cut foam and covered in mesh to enhance comfort and optimize fit. Accommodating backpackers of varying size the Stratos 50 is available in Small/Medium (fits torso lengths ranging from 16”-20”) and Medium/Large (19”-23”) size options. Adjustability in the harness load-lifter straps and sternum strap enhance fit.

In addition to its traditional top access point the main packbag can be reached through a zippered side panel entry. Additionally a lower compartment serves as a dedicated spot for stowing your sleeping bag or other clothes and gear. A front stretch shove-it pocket with two vertical zippered stash pockets two side stretch pockets and dual pockets on the pack’s lid offer additional organizational options. To save weight you can remove the lid entirely.

Not bad

Likes

This is an okay pack. But step up to the Atmos.

Dislikes

Doesn’t transfer the weight very well. Sleeping bag compartment divider isn’t removable. Lower side compression straps run over water bottle pockets. Buy the Atmos

Excellent All Purpose Pack

Likes

Lots of room to store all your gear. Easily will handle enough gear for a multi-day hike and then some, unless you have super bulky gear. Tool loop on the back plus on the front is a nice tough for trekking pole storage and if you take an axe (like me). Suspension system really spreads the weight all throughout your back. Also while the sleeping bag compartment is sealed in, there are two toggles you can remove to make the main compartment the whole pack.

Dislikes

The sleeping bag compartment is rather small; I had trouble getting my sleeping bag in when I had zero trouble in another 48L bag. Also, the lack of a lower lumbar pad doesn't really work for me; I have more curve in my back than probably most, so I prefer the lumbar support. The material for the shoulder straps also dug into my shoulders, but this wouldn't be an issue if you keep the load light or are winter camping and have multiple layers on.
