Great for Short Hikes
Likes
I use this for short (several hours) hikes when I also need the convenient trekking pole attachments. Roomy enough for my essentials and is very comfortable to wear. I'm 5'2" and got the s/m to have a little more carrying capacity.

Perfect pack for work!

This pack does the trick! As a park ranger who is constantly on the move, I needed something to carry a 1st aid kit, water bottle, a heavy old radio, and some other small items such as a flashlight. I love that the pack is just the right size -- large enough to hold everything I need, but small enough that it's not too heavy or bulky. The side water bottle pockets were a must for me to be able to carry my radio, and the extra top pocket it perfect to keep smaller items separate from the the main compartment. I am a slender gal who's 110 lbs and 5'6", with a torso measurement of 17". I could have ordered either the XS/S or the S/M, but I decided to go with the S/M so I'd get two extra liters of capacity (9 vs. 7 liters). The pack fits well and very comfortably, and even with my small waist there is still a little more belt that I could cinch in if I needed. This is my first Osprey pack, as I've always purchased Gregory packs in the past. I am happy to have found another quality backpack company!
Dislikes
The only complaint that I have about this pack is that the zippers don't seem as smooth when opening and closing as on my Gregory packs.

Comfortable Small Day Pack
Likes
I've only taken this on a few day hikes, but so far it has performed admirably. There's plenty of space for all my gear as well as supplies for my dogs for a decent length day hike. I really like that I can route the lower compression straps on the inside of the stretchy side pockets so that I can cinch down my load and still have easy access to my water bottles. The hip belt pockets are super handy and the front bungie is great for adding that one extra item or stowing a wet layer so it can dry. I've found the fit of the pack to be highly adjustable (the load lifter straps are great) and quite comfortable even carrying a full pack in warmer weather. The back panel seems fairly breathable and I haven't had problems with too much heat building up. This is my new "go to" small day pack. I had been using a CamelBak "L.U.X.E." pack (model from a few years back), and the Osprey Tempest 9 is definitely more comfortable for me, especially in the hip belt.
