Description

The versatile Outdoor Research Men's Ascendant Hoody is a high-performance option for cool-to-cold weather aerobic activities. Innovative synthetic insulation deftly balances warmth weight and breathability.

The Pertex Microlight 20D ripstop nylon stretch-woven shell is both water-resistant and wind-resistant. It also incorporates stretch to ensure that movement remains uninhibited. Polartec Alpha Direct polyester insulation delivers warmth even if it becomes wet and also maximizes breathability to help dump excess heat during high-aerobic activity. The unlined fleece-like interior offers next-to-skin comfort and further enables excess heat to escape. An adjustable helmet-compatible hood extends coverage and low-profile cuffs and an elastic drawcord hem enhance fit.

Other features include an internal stormflap behind the full-length front zipper internal thumb loops front handwarmer pockets and a zippered chest pocket.

Available in your choice of size and color options the Outdoor Research Men's Ascendant Hoody has a trim fit that is closely-cut to mirror your body's movement. It allows for layering over top but limits layering underneath it to baselayers and low-profile midlayers.

Excellet midlayer

Likes

I have been putting this midlayer to the ringer whenever the temps are around 35-45 and I do not have a warm enough base layer. It has performed really well in all these temperatures. Also, it beads away water decently well and can withstand a light shower

Dislikes

Nothing to mention under dislikes.

Great piece to add to the kit

Likes

Warmth with breathability. I sized up (to XL) so I could use in my layering system as an outer layer. I actually use this over another lightweight (Rab Borealis) softshell. Also by sizing up I could use more as an everyday jacket. I'm 6'0, 195

Dislikes

Thumb loops too small to be practical. No zippers on pockets

Very Nice Jacket

Likes

I really like this jacket. Its very lightweight yet still warm. When holding it and feeling it, it does not seem like it would be very warm because of how thin it is, but I'm comfortable in the mid 30s with only a t-shirt underneath. Add a puffy jacket and its comfortable much colder. It also breathes very well when exercising in it and I found the athletic fit to be outstanding.

Dislikes

The biggest downsides are that it is not super packable/compressible despite it being light and thin, and the insulation material on the inside is not the most comfortable on your skin. It feels a bit scratchy.

Great Jacket

Likes

How warm it is for how thin it is! Blocks the wind and reduced the need for my down jacket.

Dislikes

None yet, have hiked in it twice and it was excellent.
