The exterior of the jacket is constructed of wind- and water-resistant 20D polyester ripstop. It is insulated with lightweight and compressible responsibly-sourced 650-fill power down. Runs small

Likes

This is a lightweight, high quality down jacket. It would be great choice for hiking or backpacking, where weight is a factor.

Dislikes

It runs small. I'm 5'8", 175 lbs and usually wear a medium. The transcendent medium was too tight and I had to return it. I've learned that the coldfront is OR's replacement for the transcendent. It apparently runs larger, so I'm wondering if I should try a medium. It also has a better 30D outer layer, which I think is a big benefit to avoid rips and tears.

Excellent!

Likes

This jacket is WARM. It keeps me toasty in 30 degree weather with nothing but a light base layer underneath. It's even fairly wind resistant. It's not the lightest, but it's super soft, has tons of spacious pockets, and the zippers are really smooth. Great purchase!

Dislikes

It has leaked quite a bit of down so far but it looks like it's getting better.

Great buy

Likes

Lightweight. Arms seem to be long enough in a Large (I'm 6'5"). Compressible. Lots of pockets inside and out.

Dislikes

Hood is almost form fitted to your head. I typically wear large and have room under. This coat fits great but, with this Large I won't be able to fit many layers under it.

Good looks, fit, and function!

Likes

The fit of this jacket is great. It's long enough for my torso and fits well without being too loose or too baggy (I am 6'2" and weigh 175 LBS with a medium athletic build and care about the fit of my clothes). It packs down well and is the perfect layer for cold hiking and cool weather. It works for a surprisingly wide temperature range. It kept me fairly warm in the low 30s with a long sleeve layer underneath. With just a short sleeve shirt, it can be comfortable about 50 degrees with minimal activity. It has pretty good breathability which is great for hiking in cool weather, but means you can feel strong wind if you are standing around back at camp. It is warmer than the Patagonia sweater hoodie that I also tried and has a better fit. I also really like that the front pockets are behind the insulation, so it keeps my hands nice and warm when needed. To me this was the perfect layer for cold hiking, or stand alone winter jacket for non-extreme temperatures.

Dislikes

The only complaints I have are that the "black" is not a true black, but a dark grey. I think I actually prefer the grey color, but it is not accurately represented in name or picture (not backcountry edge's fault, it's the stock photo from OR). The only other thing would be that small down feathers get left on my clothing. This is my first down jacket, so I do not know if it is better or worse than others, but it's something to be aware of.

Great for the price

Likes

The comfortable fit and weight makes it the perfect trail jacket.

Dislikes

Owned it for a few weeks. Does shed some feathers but i figure that's pretty common with any down jacket.

Outdoor Transcendent hoody

Likes

I am 5'11" 180lbs and a medium fits comfortably and I'm able to layer, nice and warm especially when using the hood. Seems like good wind protection, super light weight too

Dislikes

The outer layer is thin, I'm hoping it holds up

Punches above it's weight

Likes

High quality construction- on par with mountain hardwear or Patagonia. Nice matte finish ripstop nylon. The black is not really black, it's almost the same as Patagonia forge grey. I would say this is the best value down jacket on the market.

Dislikes

Unfortunately size M it didn't fit me well at 6' 185 lbs. 34-35" sleeve. The body fit well but the sleeves were too short.

Perfect Down Hoody

Likes

I like everything about this down hoody. It's very light and provides incredible warmth on 15 degree mornings with only a light shirt underneath. So glad I made this purchase.

Dislikes

There's nothing to dislike about this hoody.

Nice puffer

Likes

Really nice puffer, quite warm.

Dislikes

A little baggier than most of the OR jackets. Switched out the large for the medium, even though I wear Large in every other OR jacket.
