Works as expected. Complete protection in all but very heavy rain.

First time I wore this, it was a HARD, heavy rain with large drops. Everywhere a drop hit the jacket it was wetting out, literally little circles of wetted out appearing on the shoulders and sleeves. After it completely dried, I ran a large volume water out of the tub faucet directly onto all parts of the jacket and it stayed completely dry, no wetting out at all. Outdoor Research indicates this jacket is one step below their most waterproof, and based on my experience I'd say it's a good description. The hood kept my face dry, the jacket is long enough to keep the top of my pants to my mid-thigh dry, and it's got enough volume to layer over a synthetic insulated jacket if needed. Lightweight and packs down nicely. I'm very happy to have this jacket.

What is is with the colors on outerwear these days? If I'm in the city, I want a bright color to be visible. If I'm in the wilds, in case of emergency, bright blue is the only color not found in large swatches so it really stands out for a search crew looking for me. I got the cenote color, and it's nice to look at, but a bright blue would be soooo much better for visibility.
