The Outdoor Research Men's Superstrand LT Jacket uses a soft, lightweight, and packable insulation that's as close a synthetic mimic to down as we've seen. Best of all, it continues to keep you warm even when it isn't a dry, bluebird day.

Description

  • Ultra-lightweight construction saves weight and minimizes bulk: The VerticalX Superstrand synthetic insulation has a similar weight and loft as 700-800 fill down insulation and the 12D nylon ripstop shell fabric offers water-resistance (note: not fully waterproof) and wind-resistance.
  • Low-profile fit enhancements maximize adaptability: An elastic-bound hem and elastic-bound cuffs ensure comfort while maintaining an overall layering-friendly fit.
  • Warm pockets with built-in versatility: Zippered insulated pockets provide a warm place for your hands as well as secure storage and the left hand pocket doubles as a stuff sack when you aren't wearing the jacket and want to stow it in your pack.

This jacket is so lightweight that I sometimes forget I’m wearing it! I love to pack it into its tiny stuff pocket and stash it in my backpack as an extra warm mid-layer on four season outings. The synthetic insulation feels like down, but I don’t have to worry if it gets wet. Elastic bound cuffs and hem, along with the wind resistant fabric, keep me warm on cool blustery days.
