If you backpack or camp during more than one season, this modular system offers a roomy outer bag that's like a quilt, a separate inner bag that can be used on its own, and a pad sleeve that can secure most sizes of sleeping pads (sold separately) for appropriate warmth.

With three bag configurations in a single sleep system, Big Agnes' 3N1 design consists of a roomy outer bag with a pad sleeve system on the bottom and a mummy-style inner bag that's completely removeable. Both bags are insulated with 650 fill DownTek hydrophobic down. Down insulation has long been renowned for its compressible properties and efficiency in delivering an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. The shortcoming of down has been its susceptibility to the effects of moisture, losing much of its performance qualities when wet or damp. DownTek insulation utilizes nano technology and a proprietary application process to provide water-repellency and both anti-microbial and anti-bacterial protection. The shell of the outer bag is made from a nylon ripstop material, and the outer bag lining and inner bag are made from a recycled polyester taffeta with a PFC-free water-repellent finish.

The outer bag has a rectangular shape and a temperature rating of 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The streamlined design lacks insulation on the bottom, where it can become compressed and lose its thermal properties. Instead, pair the bag with a sleeping pad with an appropriate R-value or temperature rating, and the pad sleeve on the bottom ensures that the pad stays beneath you through the night without any added bulk. The Pad Cinch System accommodates pads of varying lengths, widths, and thicknesses with an adjustable, locking drawstring to secure the bag to the pad. The pad sleeve has a dedicated "barn" pocket to secure your pillow for the night (pillow sold separately), and the bag has a no-draft collar, a no-draft wedge, and an anti-snag two-way zipper on both sides so that you stay warm and can adjust your ventilation if needed. Hand tuck pockets at the top make it easy to snug the bag around you even if using it like a quilt.

The inner bag has a tapered design that's designed to move with you when you roll over or change positions, keeping you warm and comfortable no matter how you prefer to sleep. Rated to 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the bag has a jacket-style insulated hood and a three-quarter anti-snag two-way zipper for managing temperature control in various conditions.

Paired together, the bags achieve a 15 degree rating and create a unique sleep system that has the thermal efficiency of a mummy design with the roominess of a quilt or rectangular bag. The outer bag's Pad Cinch System can accommodate many styles of sleeping pads up to 30" in width and 78" in length, though rectangular pads are recommended.
