Tough as nails and highly weather-resistant, Fjallraven Men's Bergtagen G-1000 Trousers are ready made for backcountry ski touring or demanding winter explorations. Strategic patterning provides excellent range of motion, and the fabric can be waxed for increased weather protection.
Description
- Rugged exterior fabric with adaptable weather-protection: The trousers' G-1000 fabric is a blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton. The densely woven fabrics are highly abrasion-resistant and wind-resistant. Though already providing excellent weather-resistance, the fabrics can be made almost completely waterproof with the use of Greenland Wax (sold separately). Hydratic lining on the knees and the seat of the trousers bolsters weather protection as those areas are prone to wetting out. Reinforcements at the leg endings and the inside of the lower legs increase abrasion-resistance and durability.
- Expertly designed for mobility and comfort: The trousers feature articulated construction that makes sure your movements are completely unhindered. There are hip-to-knee ventilation zippers with double sliders so you can dump excess heat. Adjustable, ski boot-compatible leg endings have laminated plackets and elasticated snow gaiters.
- Adventure-oriented storage and organization: The pants have both zippered hand pockets and zippered thigh pockets. The thigh pockets incorporate internal storage for transceivers, ski passes, or other winter essentials.
Why apply Greenland Wax?
If you prefer to trade some breathability for enhanced weather-protection, you can always consider applying Greenland Wax to the exterior of the pants. G-1000 is a tough material with a tight weave that provides natural wind-resistance, but by adding Greenland Wax, which is made of a mixture of beeswax and paraffin, you can greatly increase the wind- and water-resistance as well as durability. It's easy to do; simply apply the block of Greenland Wax (sold separately) in long, smooth strokes to leave behind a thin, even layer. Using an iron (or a hairdryer) on low to moderate heat, melt the wax into the fabric again using long, even strokes. The wax melts at between 131-140 degrees Fahrenheit (55-60 degrees Celsius); anything greater will cause the wax to get too runny. Repeat as needed for stronger or refreshed protection.
