- Rugged construction, a mix of down and synthetic fills, and timeless style combine to tackle urban winter adventures: The durable G-1000 exterior is a blend of sustainable polyester and cotton that is highly water-resistant and can be made almost completely waterproof with the use of Greenland Wax (sold separately), heavier fabric at the shoulders and lower back offer extra durability and abrasion-resistance, goose down insulation in the body provides maximum warmth, synthetic insulation in the shoulders increases weather-resistance in a spot particularly vulnerable to the elements, and a soft polyamide lining ensures internal comfort.
- Numerous design features combine to enhance winter performance: The long cut of the jacket covers your entire back side and stretches down to your thighs to give extended coverage, a tall collar snugs up against your chin, an internal drawcard at the waist allows you to pull the jacket close and seal out cold drafts, a protective snap placket over top of the full length front zipper completely blocks wind and cold air.
- Not your average hood: A deep, insulated storm hood has built-in adjustability, a cozy fleece lining, internal metal wiring to optimize protection without inhibiting vision, and classic faux fur edging that can be removed if you prefer a different aesthetic.
- Pockets, pockets, and more pockets: Nine pockets including multiple chest pockets, front bellows pockets, zippered hand pockets, and various interior pockets provide a place to hide your hands from the cold, safely stow your phone, and carry a ton of other winter essentials.
Why apply Greenland Wax?
G-1000 is a touch material with a tight weave that provides natural wind-resistance, but by adding Greenland Wax, which is mad for a mixture of beeswax and paraffin, you can greatly increase the wind- and water-resistance as well as durability. Waxing is actually surprisingly easy. Simply use the block of Greenland Wax (sold separately) and apply in long, smooth strokes which leave behind a thin, even layer. Using an iron (or a hairdryer) on low to moderate heat, melt the wax into the fabric again using long, even strokes. The wax melts at between 131-140 degrees Fahrenheit (55-60 degrees Celsius) and anything beyond those temperatures will cause the wax to get too runny. Repeat if and as you feel necessary for greater protection.
