By customer request Therm-a-Rest shape-shifted the innovative NeoAir XTherm to create the rectangular-shaped NeoAir XTherm MAX to provide expanded coverage for year-round backpacking.

Description

By customer request Therm-a-Rest shape-shifted the innovative NeoAir XTherm to create the NeoAir XTherm MAX. Still a lightweight packable option for cold-weather and year-round use the XTherm MAX provides greater coverage with its rectangular shape allowing larger users and restless sleepers a more comfortable night’s rest in the backcountry. The same 5.7 R-value found in the original NeoAir XTherm is retained in the XTherm MAX.

Unlike the limited number of vertical baffles employed by many traditional inflatable pads the NeoAir XTherm MAX utilizes horizontal air baffles. Therm-a-Rest's Triangular Core Matrix technology and the increased number of baffles help to minimize convective cooling increase stability and eliminate the "inflatable raft" feeling caused by overinflated vertical baffles. In addition stacked ThermaCapture reflective internal barriers actually direct heat back to your body and cold air back to the ground!

The inflatable construction provides a full 2.5"-thick base of support. Lightweight high-tenacity materials offer durability while maintaining an incredibly light packed weight. And soft textured non-slip surface fabrics offer next-to-skin comfort that’s also quiet when you move around on the mattress.

The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm MAX is available in Regular (20" x 72") and Large (25" x 77") size options. A repair kit is included for unexpected emergencies along with a stuff sack and medium pump sack for ease of storage and inflation.

  • Inflatable sleeping pad
  • Patent pending reflective barrier technology gives XTherm 4-season warmth without added weight or bulk
  • Light, durable fabrics for a smaller pack size and dependability in the backcountry
  • Suitable for year-round use

NeoAir Xtherm max

Likes

Perfect size for use in my warbonnet Ridgerunner. I’ve used this down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit and stayed extremely warm.

Dislikes

Would like for it to be a lighter.

Worth it

Likes

Durable. Lightweight. Preferred rectangle shape vs taper. Keeps me warm from cold ground. Not as noisy as the regular neo air. Comes with inflation sack while all the others don’t. Bought a second one for my daughter.

Dislikes

A bit pricey.

Perfect winter pad

Likes

So warm even in frigid conditions, comfortable and light for the warmth

Dislikes

I wish it came in a petite size. I love the wide, rectangular shape but am only 5'3''. The spot to fill it up makes me nervous from a durability standpoint-- I prefer Big Agnes style inflation which sits flush

Great sleeping pad

Likes

Seems to be more durable than cheaper self inflating pads I've used Light Compact Warm

Dislikes

No complains at all other than the effort of inflating it

Excellent compact design

Likes

Almost 200 grams lighter than the extra large one I already own. They work very well and come with the pump sack. Used one in my Triplex tent at -1°C last weekend and kept very warm. When you let the air out the temperature drops quickly as the ground underneath is still cold which show how well the insulation work.

Dislikes

Takes a while to pump up. A little noisy but not objectionable.

Awesome mattress

Likes

Biggest mattress I could find; I'm a big man. I sleep great; I prefer it over most standard household mattresses. Compacts nicely for storage. Great insulation. Excellent warranty. When I lost (!) my mattress I wasted no time buying another. I only wish I had lost my mattress while it was on sale!

Dislikes

Oh, it could be a tad wider.

Sleeping pad

Likes

I have bought several sleeping pads in the last year and this one is the best I’ve had. It has a R value of 5.7 and it is truly warmer than the others I have. This packs down very small compared to my trail pro. It has a higher loft. It is a little noisy but I don’t mind.

Dislikes

So Far So Good

Likes

What I like is how considerably warm it stayed underneath me. I've slept on a sleeping pad that had little to no insulation underneath and I noticed the difference in temperatures 30º-40º when the ground was really cold. I tend to run warmer when I'm asleep and I move around a lot. That being said, the regular width is too narrow for me. I'm just about 27" wide so I definitely hang off the sides of the regular size pad, if i lay on my back. Noise wise, I don't think it's noisy enough to bother my neighbors, but it's there. You don't sink down to the ground, if you're sitting one spot, probably because of the triangular internal structure.

Dislikes

No dislikes, I just don't fit well on a regular size.

Warm, comfortable and not very noisy

Likes

Took the NEOAIR XTHERM snow backpacking in March. Had never backpacked in snow and was a bit concerned I'd freeze my backside off. Temp dropped down to 20 degrees at night and with my Mtn. Hardware 15 bag on top of my new pad, stayed warm in tent. Read other reviews about pad being too noisy, but after hiking 3 miles in snow shoes and crawling in tent didn't really real much crackling noise.

Dislikes

I bought the long pad, I like the extra width but a bit too long in tent. Not a deal breaker.
