Description

Combining lightweight construction rugged durability and a comfortable 2-inch thickness the Therm-a-Rest Trail Pro self-inflating mattress offers versatility for backpacking camping or general travel. Providing an R-value of 4.0 an expandable foam core makes the pad suitable for 3-season+ use.

The easy-to-use self-inflating design allows you to simply unroll the pad and open the valve. The open-celled foam responds by soaking up air similar to the way in which a sponge absorbs liquid. Once the pad has had time to inflate you can adjust firmness by manually adding or releasing air before re-tightening the valve. An inflatable air perimeter helps to keep you on the pad at night and also helps to shave weight.

Diagonal-cut foam bolsters warmth by minimizing convective heat loss. Pressure mapping technology provides targeted support and softness in those areas where you need it most the shoulders hips and knees. Strategic foam die-cutting balances packed weight by reducing bulk in other areas.

The Therm-a-Rest Trail Pro sleeping pad is available Regular (20” x 72”) Regular Wide (25” x 72”) and Large (25” x 77”) size options. A stuff sack is included.

  • Open-cell foam core
  • Perimeter air baffles
  • 4.0 R-Value
  • Stuff sack included

light and comfortable

Likes

I recently spent 12 nights on this thing, and it was perfectly comfortable to me. The NeoAir is lighter and much more compact, but it's a pain to blow up each night and I actually don't like how it evenly distributes the pressure when I lie on my back. I want more pressure on my shoulders and tailbone than the small of my back. This mattress, containing the foam, was much, much, more comfortable for me, and worth the extra pack space and weight.

Dislikes

I'd gotten used to packing my NeoAir. This mattress takes a LOT more space in the pack.

Adequately Right-Sized, Durable, Comfortable Pad

Likes

The Regular-Wide is big enough for an older adult male... While the pad says it's 25" wide, in reality the "air cushion border" takes up 1" each side, leaving a 23" wide Self Inflating sleeping surface max width - which is just fine for a broad-shouldered, 6' 200# adult male and clearly saves cost and weight even though it might seem this approach doesn't provide a true 25" wide SI pad sleeping surface. The 2" thickness is also adequate for that person as a side sleeper, and the taper of the pad is not so severe to find your legs falling off. All in all, a "Right-Sized SI Pad". The bottom of the pad is 75D, making it more durable than the ProLite series, and the top side is 50D. Only the Trail Lite is 75D top and bottom. This combination is a good choice for a person who wants to "purchase failure insurance", both in having the more durable bottom fabric and open cell foam thickness as safeguards against a completely failed air pad. Note, too, that for storage, the "air cushion border" deflates, so the open valve storage width is a bit more than 23" width compared to the full 25" for models like the SI Long Trail Lite, Trail Scout, or ProLite. Once fully inflated for a few days, and allowed to rest with open valve, re-inflation from backpacked size takes 6 to 8 breaths (maybe more for a smaller person) after self inflation, a few of them just to fill the "air cushion border". A pump sack isn't required, but useful to keep moisture out of your foam if you also take the pump sack for packing your sleep socks, balaclava, and warm sleep long-sleeve T.

Dislikes

Fleeting. While cost and actual pad sleeping surface may initially seem Therm-a-Rest took short cuts, the design goal compromises made here (in cost-size-weight-durability-comfort) were well made.

Inflated quickly. I have several Therma-A-Rest pads and they'll all been of excellent quality.

Dislikes

Bought this as a gift and they wanted a rectangular pad, so we returned this one. Not a dislike, just personal preference. The color is personally not my favorite.

Ahhhhh...comfort

Likes

This pad is replacing a 15+ year old Therm-A-Rest that finally split a seam. I chose the TrailPro because it is the only regular length pad that is wide. I’m getting old, I like my comfort and am willing to tote a little extra weight. So far I’m not disappointed. I love the extra width of this pad as I toss and turn a lot when I sleep. I don’t find myself falling off the pad in the middle of the night. The extra thickness and insulation really make this the ideal pad for me.

Dislikes

None at all, however I’d like to suggest to Therm-A-Rest that they offer a few more pads with regular length/wide.

Light weight - great for motorcycle camping

Likes

Light weight and packs fairly small Insulates effectively Good value

Dislikes

The foam pad is narrower than the cover. This may be typical of sleeping pads, but I recommend getting at least the regular-wide size.
