The Topo Athletic Men's Traverse is the rare shoe that offers technical running performance with the stability for thru-hiking. It has a premium outsole, underfoot cushioning and protection, and a roomy toebox with a secure heel and midfoot.

Description

  • Balanced cushion and protection for all-around trail use: Whether you're running rocky and rooty trails or churning out long hiking miles, the shoe's moderately cushioned ZipFoam midsole has a lightweight feel with an integrated rock plate to absorb the pounding of uneven terrain. An insole made of TPU beads enhances cushioning and overall fit.
  • Foot-shaped fit for balanced, natural gait: The signature Topo Athletic fit has a roomy toe box to keep your toes in their natural position without pinching or rubbing while providing security in the midfoot and heel so you feel agile and confident on varied terrain. The moderate 5mm (30mm heel and 25mm midfoot) drop encourages a natural stride.
  • Stable, reliable grip wherever you go: You'll be ready for any terrain with Vibram's premium rubber outsole. Its MegaGrip compound provides superior traction and slip resistance on a wide variety of trail surfaces.

What about sizing?
Sold in pairs, the Men's Traverse trail shoe is available in a standard width and men's full and half sizes. It's also gaiter compatible with a ring at the base of the tongue area.

If I ever commit to a thru- hike, I’ll be sure to place the these at the top of my list for footwear. I may not be able to comment on how they run ultra marathons, but I can certainly relate to needing to cover large amounts of fast mile hiking. They feel like a favorite running shoe, but you can tell they have enough traction and stability to rival a sure-footed mountain goat. That’s exactly the combo I’d want for long distance hiking.
