Striking an effective balance between weight and durability, the Big Agnes Blacktail 2 tent offers versatility for backpacking or camping at an affordable price. This freestanding two-person tent is built to stand up to repeated use and years of adventure.
The tent measures 90” long by 52” wide”. With 33 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of just 4.5 pounds, the tent can comfortably house 2 or serve as a super roomy solo shelter. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes. Two internal media pockets enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Square Gear Loft (sold separately).
The tent's aluminum poles are lightweight and durable and feature press fit connectors. This press fit pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast easy and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof, pulling the tent body taut and increasing the verticality of the interior walls. This also helps to maximize the spaciousness of the two vestibules. Lightweight aluminum hook stakes are included to further secure the pitch of the freestanding tent.
Ample mesh on the tent body and the large doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1500mm waterproof polyurethane, the polyester floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are tape-sealed with waterproof solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements. The Big Agnes Blacktail 2 Footprint (sold separately) can be used to bolster protection from mud, ground water, and sharp objects like rocks, exposed roots and pine needles. If you want to travel lighter and conditions cooperate, you can leave the tent body at home and use just the rainfly, poles, and the footprint to create a tarp-style set-up that weighs just 3 pound, 6 ounces.
