Description

The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio. The balance of weight and performance is sure to appeal to ounce-counters who still appreciate comfort.

Stretching a full 90" in length, the interior of the tent is 70" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 62" at the feet. With 41 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 3 pounds, 6 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 3 or serves as a super spacious shelter for 2 hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while media pockets located above the sleeping area enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for either the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft, Large Wall Gear Loft, or Large Trapezoid Gear Loft (all sold separately).

The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.

Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.

If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur HV UL 3 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 13 ounces.

Super light; very portable; worried about tears

Likes

I bought this for this much money just because I wanted something VERY reputable that was very light and portable. And yes this achieves that in every possible way.

Dislikes

Not really a dislike but I've owned heavier D tents before and wow this one feels paper thin. I mean I get that that's how it is light but I seriously worry about what I might do to rip it. So my plan is to use some sort of sleeping pad or mat or something inside at all times and a tent pad under it at all times. I just feel it needs protected but maybe I'm just paranoid about tearing it :)

Great Tent

Likes

Super lightweight. Easy setup.

Dislikes

Floor material seems awfully fragile. Reluctant to camp with my dog in this tent!

Spacious and light

Likes

I had high hopes for this tent, considering the price and other reviews. It did not disappoint. I was impressed by how spacious the tent is. The HV feature makes it possible to get the most out of every inch of space. The built in gear pockets are a plus...don’t need a gear loft. Two doors and two vestibules are great. I was surprised at how far the “walls” come up, seeing as though there’s a lot of mesh material. It offered some degree of privacy without the fly.

Dislikes

Delicate material is the trade off for lighter weight, I suppose, but I would be reluctant to have my dog in there with me, as it seems like the material would be susceptible to getting torn. I was really gentle with it because the zippers can easily snag the rainfly if not careful. A footprint is a must. After a night of steady rain, I noticed some spots on the floor and walls where it looked like water had seeped through. It only happened in certain spots and almost seemed as though after had been absorbed through the material. It was well-ventilated and the fly was pitched pretty tight, so I don’t think condensation was a factor. Docked one star because of it. Will look into treating the floor and walls with nik-wax or similar.

Great 3 season tent.

Likes

In my opinion it's the perfect size for 2 people and a dog. You'll have no problem fitting gear and all inside the tent. I had seen other reviews that stated it leaked during rainfall, we got a small rainstorm but i saw no signs of leaking or condensation on inside of rainfly. Tent was very easy to set up with color coded poles, tears down is just as easy. I also purchased during the Big Agnes Sale so I got tent, footprint and a free t-shirt all for $100 bucks less than i could have gotten just the tent at other online retailers

Dislikes

if i had to list one dislike it would be the color...I was particularly fond of the bright orange but like the bland greenish-grey tent even less.

Great all around tent for two people

Likes

We bought this for my wife and I. For this purpose, it has a great amount of space. It sets up quickly, and can be set up with the ground sheet and rain fly for a fast pitch. It is great they offer this tent in a color other than bright orange. It is a little easier on the eyes in the back country.

Dislikes

Rather bulky when all packed up. Ground sheet sold separately. Expensive. I am not a big fan of how the tent doors open.
