High-speed computerized knitting equipment utilizes 100% fine gauge New Zealand Merino wool. An impressive 1444 stitches per square inch ensure the comfort and support for which Darn Tough is renowned. The Hiker Boot Sock Full Cushion surrounds your entire foot and shin with high-density cushioning. A reinforced heel and toe ensures durability. Comparison to Coolmax Boot Sock Full Cushion

I wanted to compare two of Darn Tough’s socks to see which was more comfortable to hike in when wet. I wanted to do this comparison because when crossing streams while hiking, I cross with my socks and mesh hiking shoes on. Then I just let the shoes and socks dry out as I hike. So, it’s important for me that socks be comfortable to wear when wet. The two socks I chose were this sock (Darn Tough Boot Sock Full Cushion) and the Darn Tough Coolmax Boot Sock Full Cushion. The former sock is mainly merino wool, while the latter is 100% synthetic. The socks I compared are both midweight socks, both boot height, and both full cushion. For the comparison, I wore this predominantly wool Darn Tough sock on one foot and the Darn Tough Coolmax sock on my other foot. I got both equally wet while stepping into a stream and then hiked the rest of the day with wet socks. I found the Coolmax sock felt “squishier” when wet than the wool sock, which made the wool sock noticeably more comfortable to wear.

I wear these hiking and often also day to day because of how comfortable and durable they are. They definitely hold up to trail use and keep dry well

Tightly woven, they don't bunch or sag even after multi-days of use on the trail. Pair after pair they are consistently well made.

Worked Well on the AT

First hiking trip gift to my cousin

My cousin was hiking with me in the Gila Forest, I knew he had two pairs of wool socks, but needed one more, my first thought was Darn Tough XL full length cushion socks, and lo and behold you guys supplied me well once again. My cousin loved the pair, and made great use of them on his first hiking adventure.
