Great pack for a running commute
Likes
I love Deuter packs - very well designed and made. Previously, I had a Deuter Race for my running commute, but recently, I have the requirement to take my laptop back and forth from work and home each day and the Deuter Race was too small at 12L. After much research, I decided to go with the Trans Alpine - why?: The Trans Alpine 24L has enough room to easily accommodate my MacBook Pro 13”, a change of clothes, plenty of compartments for keys, phone, etc., and a down jacket in the bottom compartment, yet retains the air flow channels on the back like the Race. Also, it is imperative that a backpack used for running has a wide waist strap as well as a chest strap - the TA24 has a beefier version of what’s on the Race by having the shoulder straps and waist straps being solid material instead of neting, as well as being padded. The TA24 goes even further by adding shoulder cinch straps to bring the pack in even closer and up higher on your back (as demoed in a very flashy way by Josh! Watch the video! Thanks Josh - you sold me!). Another bonus is the high density pad insert on the back side that keeps whatever’s in your pack, e.g., a heavy lap top, from crashing into your back - an even cooler, it pulls out and serves as a portable seat! I know this backpack is marketed as biking/skiing/trekking back, but it works great as a running commuter pack. I run a 5k each day from the ferry terminal to work and back here in the PNW and with our light drizzle days, I don’t even bother with the built-in rain cover because the material is waterproof enough, but in the heavier rains, love the fact that it has a built-in rain cover. The Deuter Trans Alpine 24 is the perfect commuting pack no matter how you commute - walk, bike, run, ski, etc... it’s got you covered. :)
