Description

The Kelty Coyote 65 internal frame backpack is an excellent balance of performance, storage capacity (3900+ cubic inches), and affordability. Load-hauling capability, convenient access points, and an array of features combine to equip the pack for overnight and weekend backpacking trips.

The pack’s suspension system is comprised of a lightweight perimeter frame and a ventilated backpanel. Together, these features effectively distribute and balance the weight of heavy backpacking loads while promoting airflow to keep you cool and comfortable. The height-adjustable suspension system allows the pack to accommodate torso lengths ranging from 15-20 inches. The padded and adjustable shoulder straps and hipbelt further aid in stabilization and fit. Fine tuning can be made with load-lifter straps and an elastic sternum strap.

The main compartment of the pack has a top entry access point and there is also a lower sleeping bag compartment. There are two large zippered front pockets, zippered side pockets with pass-through access behind them, and also a zippered pocket in the protective top lid. Other features include side and lower front compression straps, side water bottle pockets, ice axe/trekking pole loops, daisy chain attachment points, and hipbelt pockets. A lined internal sleeve makes the pack hydration compatible (hydration system not included).

The Kelty Coyote 65 backpack is available in your choice of color options.

  • AMP-Flow ventilated backpanel
  • Advanced perimeter frame
  • FIT-Pro quick-and-easy torso adjustment system
  • Signature wing side pockets with pass-through functionality
  • Two kinds of hipbelt pockets for need-it-now items

Great internal frame pack

Likes

I love this bag. The waist band and shoulder straps are comfortable. The frame is rigid enough that I can use the load lifters to take the load off my shoulders. Or by loosening them and tightening the shoulder straps, I can bring as much load as I want onto my shoulders. I like the external pockets that have their own shape, rather than being stretchable fabric against the pack body. The latter are hard to fill once the pack is stuffed. If my trips involved any scrambling or bushwhacking, this is definitely the pack I'd use.

Dislikes

There's no divider for the sleeping bag "compartment", so if you take your bag out of the bottom, everything else will fall to the bottom of the pack. I test-fit this along side a Kelty Trekker 65 (external frame). It was a tough decision, but in the end I decided on the Trekker. The more numerous external pockets and rectangular pack shape made it easier to load and fit all my gear in the external frame pack. I also found the Trekker a little more comfortable on my back.

Good choice

This product is a great entry level piece for anyone looking to get into backpacking. My 15-year-old son absolutely loved the styling and the feel for his first adventure. He summited his first 2 peaks with it (Ulysses S. Grant peak at Ice Lake and Mt. Timpanogos).
