Description

The Kelty Journey PerfectFIT Elite child carrier delivers safety for your little ride-along and comfort for the both of you. It also incorporates on-the-go adjustability, has a ton of storage capacity, and includes a number of other top-of-the-line features.

The carrier's PerfectFIT suspension system provides accurate on-body size adjustment so you can easily customize the fit even after you've put it on. Its broad torso adjustability range of 15.5"-21" allows the carrier to comfortably fit parents of varying heights and sizes. A lightweight aluminum frame provides stability and load-bearing strength. Hex mesh on the padded backpanel and waistbelt provides excellent cushioning and ventilation. Load lifter straps relieve stress on your shoulders and an adjustable sternum strap positions the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms and on the shoulders. The carrier has a total carrying capacity of up to 50 pounds (including child, carrier, and any contents). The frame has a folding design that lets the carrier stand rigidly. Numerous built-in handles make it easy to grab and maneuver the carrier.

Your child rides safely inside the carrier's padded aluminum roll cage. The padded cockpit seat has height adjustability to "grow" with your child. Adjustable stirrups provide a comfortable place for little feet to rest. An integrated sunshade adds protection from glare, UV, and light precipitation and easily tucks out of the way when not in use.

The carrier provides 1587 cubic inches of storage. It has a large main storage compartment and a separate zippered pocket with internal organizational features. It also has side stretch mesh pockets, two zippered hipbelt pockets, and a handy zippered "dirty" compartment. An internal sleeve makes the carrier hydration compatible (hydration system not included).

Really Wanted to Like It

Likes

I really wanted to like this carrier. I liked the features of this pack: hydration compatible, sunshade, lots of adjustments. I liked the look of it and the color. I had liked the older Kelty pack I borrowed from a friend. My 2-year-old son liked this pack better than my wife’s older Osprey Poco Plus.

Dislikes

It didn't sit comfortable on my back. I tried multiple times and various adjustments, but the padding never seemed to sit right. I adjusted and tried on my wife’s older Osprey and even with less padding it seemed to sit better against my back. I'm going to try a model from Deuter or Osprey next as they are around the same price point as this one.

GREAT REDESIGN

Likes

This is a well thought out redesign. I was torn between this pack and Osprey Poco AG and I am not disappointed in my decision. The key selling features that set this apart are the water proof pocket, the location of the bladder pocket, and water bottle holding pockets on the pack as well as the expandable pocket on the waist belt.

Dislikes

I have none, the product is best on the market.

Carries well. Comfortable.

Likes

I have used a few different child carriers with mixed results. They work well with smaller kids but have had troubles with carriers when kids are in the stage where they can almost walk on their own but need to be carried a lot when they get tired. Kelty has a long history of making backpacks that carry heavy loads comfortably. I have an old external frame from Kelty that carries anything I load on it.The hip belt is amazing. In this regard I have not been disappointed with the Kelty Journey child carrier. The hip belt is very comfortable. Better than others I have tried. I also like the Perfectfit system that lets me dial in and adjust the fit to where I want it. The pocket that can be washed is a good idea. Kids can be messy on the trail. The storage pockets have plenty of room to hold snacks, jackets, and whatever items you need for a day of hiking. The built in sun shade works better for younger kids. Taller kids might feel that it sits a little too close to the top of their head. I'm not a huge fan of the hip belt water bottle pocket. It's convenient, but depending on the size of the water bottle, it can kind of feel in the way. I wish it had couple of more accessible water bottle pockets on the main body of the pack besides the two in the front. The water bladder storage is easy to get to in order to refill it.

Dislikes

I would have liked a couple of water bottle pockets that were easier to reach besides the one on the hip belt.

Awesome child carrier

Likes

Once all the settings are tuned in, this child carrier works great. The first hike we used it on was about 2.5 miles long and, by the end of the hike, I finally had the carrier setup just right so that most of the weight was on my hips. Keep in mind that once the carrier is packed with all the baby stuff, snacks, water, and child, it can reach the weight limit pretty quickly. It’s a good idea to have someone else with a daypack to carry some of the items to lighten the load.

Dislikes

The opening for the water bladder compartment is a bit tight and I’m always worried that the zipper will puncture the bladder. Our son’s head tends to hang from the side when he falls asleep, my wife is making a small pillow to stuff in between him and the safety strap so we can lay his head on it when he falls asleep.

Careful Research led me to this pack

Likes

Extraordinarily comfortable and adjustable for baby and me. Easy on and off with one person. Looks great. This pack is made from premium materials, and it feels and looks like it. The parts that need to be are easily washable in case of an accident. The integrated sunshade works well, and there are enough pockets and spots for a long day hike even without my wife carrying a separate pack. This is a top of the line pack, and if you were an avid hiker before kids and wondering how you can get back on the trail, this is the pack for you.

Dislikes

None, some would say cost, but you get what you pay for. I feel confident that when the time comes, I will pull this out from under the stairs and carry my grandkids in it.
