Description

Building on the award-winning design of the Hubba series of tents, the 3-person MSR Access 3 tent has a bolstered design that equips it for mountaineering or winter usage or allows it to serve as a rugged alternative for backpackers seeking maximum durability.

The unique pole configuration of the tent provides 41 square feet of interior space and 42 inches of interior height for maximum livability. Dual vestibules offer a combined 17.5 square feet of additional protected storage space.

A strong and supportive hubbed Easton Syclone pole provides rigid structure. A central support frame enhances livability by increasing the verticality of the tent's side walls, but also does a great job of shedding snow. MSR stakes are included to aid in further securing the pitch of the freestanding tent.

Anticipating usage in cold weather, the body of the tent has very little mesh. The 20D ripstop nylon rainfly has a 1200mm XtremeShield polyurethane and silicone coating and the 30D ripstop nylon floor has a 3000mm treatment that makes the tent extremely waterproof and highly durable. Integrated rainfly vents help to promote airflow to combat condensation.

  • 3-person capacity
  • Minimum weight of 4 pounds, 6 ounces
  • 41 square foot interior
  • 17.5 square foot vestibule space
  • Swivel pole hub for fast setup
  • Central support frame holds up to high winds and heavy snow loads
  • Virtually unbreakable Easton Syclone pole further boosts durability
  • Durable fabrics offer full protection and warmth in cold weather and in snow conditions found at tree line
  • Rainfly vents reduce condensation
  • Large vestibules protect gear, freeing up more livable room inside the tent

Good journey

Likes

For winter there are no upper venting options on the outer apart from door zips, risking snow and rain ingressing straight onto the inner as the zipper is along the line of the inner. The inner has tiny mesh panel on the door, so this risks lots of condensation building up. The fly doesn't go all the way down to the ground so in snow, lots of spindrift comes in. The poles flex amazingly, but I'd suggest to MSR, the side pole should continue to hold the outer in place at the porch ends.

Very packable 4 season 3 person tent

Likes

- pound for pound efficient - easy and fast setup - ventilation is superb - condensation is minimal - vestibule design allows for cooking in a pinch

Dislikes

- not enough tent stakes - maybe a more heavy duty rain fly....which will add a little more weight but would be worth it. - why not include a footprint? Beat the competition and include a rain fly....even if only Tyvex!
