Description

Cold weather won’t stop the versatile Optimus Vega canister stove. When temperatures dip, simply flip over the canister (sold separately) and quickly adjust the stove for efficient fuel conversion.

NOTE: The Vega does require the use of a fuel canister (sold separately). A blend of 75% butane and 25% butane/propane, Optimus gas provides consistent, reliable backcountry performance. An 8-ounce canister will provide up to 160 minutes of burn time at the highest maximum output.

Integrated turbo boost in Four Season Mode reduces cook time by as much as 20 percent, saving time and fuel while in the backcountry. Depending on climate and altitude, the Vega will boil 1 liter of water in as little as 4.5 minutes.

With its precise simmer control and the included wind shield, the Vega is more than just a boiler of water. The large burner head prevents spot burning when simmering sauces or other temperature-sensitive foods.

The rugged, low-profile design of the Optimus Vega provides stability on a variety of terrains, while the compact size (5.11" x 2.76" x 2.56") and 6.28 ounce weight (without canister) are certainly backpacker-friendly.

  • Integrated canister stand allows canister to be flipped for ultimate performance in cold weather
  • Ultra-lightweight construction
  • Precise simmer control for cooking a wide variety of meals
  • Rugged low-profile design provides superior stability
  • Large burner head spreads out flame for fast boiling and even heating
  • Adjustable windshield for use in windy, cold and harsh conditions
  • Folding pot support legs and folding integrated canister stand for compact portability

I can not explain how much i am in love with this little backpacking stove. Unfortunately with something so small and convenient, there is a very tiny downfall and that is stability when it does not have a pan on top. If the gas line is bent in a specific direction, it almost tips over when removing the pan. Just be aware and make sure it is on the most flat surface you can find in the outdoors and you will be fine.

Was looking for a fairly light packable stove that would support larger pots and skillets for group hiking and this stove fits the bill.

Likes

Boils water quickly but adjusts down to a simmer for longer cooks or frying. Large pot stand handles larger cookware well. Like the ability to invert fuel canister for cold weather or faster boil but haven't tried this feature. Low profile makes it really stable and easy to shelter from wind.

Dislikes

windscreen seems a little flimsy but it worked well just not sure about long term.

Nice lovely stove

I don't know why Optimus doesn't get more attention for this little guy. It's fairly light weight and beautiful design. I actually enjoy opening it and closing it, brings me joy! I also LOVE the low center of gravity that this design affords. Often times you can't find a flat spot anywhere, or it's so darn windy everything wants to tip over. I didn't have any problems with this guy on a windblown "mountain" top in the Appalachians and other windy days. It is easy to light and I could simmer very easily, although with the thin Ti and AL camp cookware that's always a challenge. Having the ability to turn it upside down is a huge plus camping in the colder seasons.

Dislikes

Very minor, but the cute green paint they use on the adjustment lever (no primer used) chips off and ended up making a little bit of a mess. I chipped it off with the metal deflector that it comes with and now it's not a problem.

Love this little stove. Much more stable than having the burner on top of the fuel can. Easier to shield from the wind too.

Dislikes

Nothing.
