Description

Envisioned and built as a durable entry-level workhorse, the Osprey Kyte 46 Women's backpack offers lots of storage pockets, multiple access options and an integrated raincover at an affordable price.

Committed to providing all outdoor enthusiasts with optimal performance, Osprey equips its women's packs with gender-specific design features. Harnesses are cut wider through the collar bone area and have an ergonomic taper in the chest area. Offering a women's specific cant and a narrower cut, the hipbelts found on Osprey's women's packs also cater to female users.

The pack uses a lightweight peripheral frame with a foam framesheet to provide balanced, flexible and strong support for your load. The adaptable suspension system allows for torso adjustability.

The top-loading pack offers over 2600 cubic inches of storage and there are plenty of places to stow your things. A side zipper also allows you to access the pack without taking off the lid and there's also a lower sleeping bag compartment with its own access point. The lid has an external zippered pocket and a zippered mesh pocket on the bottom. There is a hybrid shove-it pocket on the front of the pack and dual stretch mesh pockets on the sides. Two zippered pockets on the hip belt keep small items handy. There is a full-length side pocket for even more storage.

On the outside of the pack, you can use the two ice tool attachments or tuck them away if not needed. Two daisy chains mean that you can lash bulky or wet gear to the exterior. Special loops allow you to stow your trekking poles without even slowing down. The hydration reservoir pocket of this pack is located externally to save room inside the pack (reservoir not included). A removable raincover is included so you’ll never be caught unprepared by bad weather.

The Osprey Kyte 46 Women's backpack is available in your choice of colors and sizes.

The concept, the durability, the material, quality construction

Dislikes

I tried this bag in an attempt to pair down. The features sounded perfect, but in reality, they didn't perform as I expected. This all may be personal preference, and may not apply to everyone's likes/dislikes. The straps to attach a foam pad to the outside of the pack do not keep the pack underneath, as most other packs do, but on the front of the bottom of the bag. It's odd, and is frustrating. Additionally, if you plan to use the included rain cover and attach a foam pad to the outside of your pack, this will not work. I expect this is the case with most backpacks with included rain covers. They are exactly the size of the bag, so no use if you attach anything substantial to the outside of your bag. The side mesh pocket, meant to keep a water bottle, failed to keep my 32 oz Nalgene in place. It was difficult to wedge in with a loaded pack & it just worked its way out quickly with movement. The 'stuff it' pocket access isn't as accessible as traditional mesh pockets, but hindered by the straps to compress the bag. As you cinch these to stabilize the load, the opening in the 'stuff it' area gets less easy to 'stuff'. Not a deal breaker, but the traditional mesh is just easier to use. Lastly, the feature I was most excited about, the exterior water bladder storage. The idea is that you do not have to remove all the items from your bag in order to refill your water bladder. This sounds great! In reality, when you attempt to reload the now full water bladder into your packed bag, the full bladder will not go back into place. Sadly, this is the biggest flaw I believe. I had high hopes and could have overlooked the other flaws if this had worked out, but it did not. In order to reload the full water reservoir, I had to remove most of the contents of my backpack, not any differently from a regular internal water sleeve. Keep working on it Osprey. It's a great company with innovative ideas, but this feels like it lacked some real world trials before it was released.

Lightweight, simple, and super comfortable!

My measurements are right between Osprey’s XS/S and S/M. Tough choice! Went with the XS and it seems fine

Well made, light-weight pack for shorter trips

Likes

We got this pack for my wife to use, as she often doesn't spend more than a couple nights on the trail at a time, and we wanted to go as light-weight for her as possible. It fits well and she had no complaints about how it carried the load. She also liked the breathable back that helped keep her cool. I was very impressed by Osprey's attention to detail. It is a very well made pack. Now I want to upgrade my own pack to something similar to this one!

Dislikes

The built-in rain cover that stows in the bottom is nice, but don't expect it to fit over anything extra if you have additional things lashed to the pack. Also, with this smaller capacity pack, you can't carry much bulky gear... 46 L fills up quickly! Those aren't really complaints, just a heads-up to other buyers.

Comfortable and Feature-heavy

Likes

Versatile. It's a great pack for a one-day hiking trip or an overnight backpacking trip. The suspension is superb, and the adjustable torso length lets you really lock in a good fit. The side zipper makes for very easy access to the main compartment.

Dislikes

A little small for anything more than one night, unless you have all ultra-light gear.
